I managed to see it as well this week, and I was disappointed. I'm not a Thor fan or even an Avengers fan, so I looked at it as a general moviegoer, but the main reason i went to see it was Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and in that I wasn't disappointed. He made his scenes and lines count, and had me truly believing he was a god of thunder and the man who could sire a badass like Thor. However, the movie itself was slow and dragging, very little action and the first 20 minutes were just boring. One bright spot was Stan Lee's hilarious cameo. I saw this for Hopkins and because I've seen all the other Marvel movies, and will continue to do so, but this was almost as bad as Iron Man 2. Even that had more action. I'll see Captain America, hopefully it'll be a step up.

I saw the movie yesterday and have to say bar a few minor nit picks here and there, it was a well crafted movie. I don't think it was bad at all. I think it was pretty good.
The "gods" and Asgard were done very nicely. Branagh has a flair for the Shakespearean, and it worked for this movie. The dialog was very much what Asgardians should sound like, minus the thick old time english.
I think overall general audiences will like it. Its a bit more Isaac Asimov Sci-Fi than what the comic was but I found it to be quite well done overall.
For action scenes I think there was plenty, Iron -Man 2 neglected the story-telling in favor of more Action scenes, but this movie had a lot of mythos to tell in very little time, it would have benefited enormously of maybe 30 minutes more of footage to fully explore the Thor story. The battle against the Destroyer Armor was epic.
Also to all those who think these movies are bad, remember they come from a comic book and a bit more suspension of disbelief is required.

I just saw it last night and it was ok. I didn't like it as much as Ironman or even any of the Spider-man movies, but I still liked it.

I've seen it three times in a week and a half so I guess I must like it - that beats Iron Man 1 and the Dark Knight, especially at today's prices.

Saw it twice over the weekend. Once in 2-D, once in 3-D but the former was the better choice.
My grade: A-
I'd rank the Marvel Movies like this so far: Iron Man>Thor>Hulk>Iron Man 2
Hemsworth's Thor is going to be great next to RDJ's Iron Man.
Asgard looked great. Hopkins as Odin was as brilliant as I had hoped when the casting was announced.
Of the few complaints I have Thor should've had his ceremonial helmet on more. Loki (who was also brilliant) had his on quite a bit.

Re: THOR - Marvel Comics latest movie to open May 6, 2011
I really dug Thor. It was awesome to see Asgard in all its 3D glory but the 3D did not help much elsewhere. It became distracting at point such as Stellan Skarsgård holding a book but I couldn't read the text.
Some quick thoughts:
-The Infinity Gauntlet was a huge deal for us nerds at Comic Con but I didn't spot it.
-Loved Anthony Hopkin's performance.
-I didn't know Loki was a Frost Giant in the comics. I thought that was something made up for the movie.
-Loved Stan Lee & J. Michael Straczynski's cameos but Walt Simonson was perfect.
-Loved the use of the Foo Fighters' song over the credits.
-I should note that the movie needed to have Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" at least once when the Frost Giants appeared.

Even if it wasn't in the comics, Loki being part giant wasn't made up for the movie, it was part of Norse Mythology.

I just saw it in 3D. Yeah, it didnt help much, but the movie was still awesome. I think it's one of the best along with Iron Man, Hulk, and Ghost Rider...Lol, JK!
But it was good. Liked Thor, liked Loki, liked Odin, liked Natalie Portman...duh...Overall, A. Not plus, not minus, just A. It still had some problems, but it was enjoyable. Though the sound the Destroyer made was kind of anoying; kind of like a Giant metal goose getting punched in the nads.
Next up, Captain America...

I enjoyed it, but there were a few things that I didn't like.
I felt the plot really lacked direction, and proper pacing, then all of a sudden, Thor is fighting Loki...
I didn't feel very much like a comic book adaption.
There were some cool visual aspects of the movie, but I won't be watching it again.

Me, too. Then again, I figured it probably wouldn't, given that Marvel was overseeing things and I doubt they would have allowed what was possibly a major change to a character's backstory to make it into one of their films.

That's true: There was no overall direction of the plot, Loki was just using the opportunities presented to him, not directing everything from the shadows, but doing minor tricks to get power or favor in the eyes of Odin. Still, it worked for me.
It wasn't as good as the Iron Man movies, but it was better than the Hulks. Visually, and overall, it was better than what I cold have expected - in my opinion, Thor could have been the weakest link in the Avengers cast, but it did turn out awesome. 10/10.
Also, did the frost giants remind only me to Ivan Ooze?

Like I said before, it's not a change to Loki's backstory. We are, after all, talking about a character that predates the company by about a thousand years...

Just saw it and I was blown away by how great it was! I'm very glad that my theater finally has 3D just in time for it too. I've never read any of the comics, but I've been a huge mythology nut since I was 10. This is exactly how a Thor movie should have been and, for the first time in a long time, I truly LMAO at comedic parts of a non-comedy movie.

But we're talking about the Marvel version, not the real life version. And since I knew little to nothing about Thor prior to seeing the movie, that's what got me to wondering.

Estimates are still fluctuating but it looks like the range is going to be THOR pulling in around $30-32m and again repeating as the #1 film. It's total will be around $115-117m US and over $300m worldwide.

When Thursday, 5/27, actuals come out tomorrow THOR is going to be a $400m film World Wide!!! Having made in 21 days $150m US domestic and $250m international. The film is likely to run for another 80 days at least. It has a long range chance at $200m if the studio wants to push it there but realistically should land around $185-190m!

No, Thor 2 is not planned. As stated by the movie itself, Thor will return in the Avengers. Thor 2 if it ever gets made will most likely happen after that movie.
