Transformers movie did better than anyone could have hoped for...and im happy it did

Although its still going at it in theaters, check this latest grosses out for the transformers movie:

Yearly 2007 Domestic (indicates US numbers only)

1 - Spiderman 3 - $336.530,303
2 - Shrek 3 - $321.012.359
3 - Transformers - $310.578.372

pirates 3 and harry potter came in at 4th and 5th.

thats amazing right there, and notice how spidey and shrek are barely above transformers in the states.

as the business is changing to a more DVD-centered business and not so much box office only (kevin smith said this very same thing in a Q&A about his movies kinda bombing in the box office, which doesnt really matter because dvd sales are a big part of any movie studio these days, and where they get most profits, because box office has to be split with the theaters and whatnot).

Also why you dont really see movies making 500, 600mill in the states these days, now usually the "rest of the world" numbers are higher than the states numbers.

Worldwide Transformers is 5th at the moment (behind pirates at 1st, harry potter at 2nd, spidey at 3rd and shrek at 4th, all 4 movies huge established brands) with about 680million, hopefully it will still break the 700mill mark before the end of its theater run.

And of course theres the fact that Transformers had a very small budget, much less than any of the big sequels this year. Indeed, the brand is alot more profitable than most people expected, which is just awesome when youve been a fan for so many years. And although im sure some (lots?) fans are sad/angry/disapointed they "raped your childhood", you have to at least be happy with the movie's, as a brand, sucesss.

Peace out and bring on the dvd 8)

Well said!!!!

I was not very happy about people's comments regarding Michael Bay raping our childhood. First off that's just a sick and low class analogy. Michael Bay didn't take anything from our childhood. He was never out to make a live action version of the G1 cartoons. That was declared from the beginning. He simply wanted to bring the story of Transformers into today's world. And bottom line, there are just so many things about G1 that don't make any real life physical sense. That was one of the wonderous things about the G1 cartoon for alot of us as kids. What couldn't be in real life could be in the cartoon.

The great thing about math is that is that it can't be distorted or manipulated. 2+2=4, math it is very factual and truthful. When you look at the numbers that the movie has done even including the very low cost to make it you can't deny it's success. Even if you take into consideration how you feel about, or how us as a fandom feel about it there is no denying that Michael Bay made a great movie. If he didn't and Transformers was really that horrible then it would not have put out the staggering numbers that is has and probably will. The toys would not have sold out leaving empty shelves and shelf pegs.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie both time I saw in the theaters. I thought it was a thrilling joyride with a very straight forward plot that I felt made it easier to pay attention to the action and enjoy the action. Transformers is about battling Giant F_____g Robots as Micael would say. And that is what was delivered to us in an awsome way.

I say definitely bring on the DVD!!!

Can't be said enough.

For those who still might cry foul about this not being true to "the Transformers of our youth", I will raise a mighty positive point in this movie's defense. Transformers, the 2007 live-action movie, does for its namesake saga what Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns did for Batman: it refines it, it re-defines it, and not only re-launches the story but for the first time ever perhaps gives the story the form it was always meant to have.

The beautiful thing about mythologies is that they can get re-interpreted for whatever generation and still tell the same great story :D
