So yeah, TM2 was generally sub-par, but a couple characters were great and couldn't have been done in another line.

Bob forward & larry ditillio revealed that they wanted optimus primal to stay dead at the end of season 1 of beastwars. and bob & larry wanted the silverbolt character to become the maximal leader in season 2 of beastwars.

The TM2 Tigerhawk toy was originally planned to be a ultra sized Fuzor Silverbolt toy that was suspose to represent silverbolt as the maximal leader. this is why the toy has wings,it was suspose to be a flying wolf.

but it got recolored & called Tigerhawk. at the very last minute to represent the VOK fused form of airrazor & Tigerhawk. in beastwars hasbro used the same singular cheetor mold & recolored it as a panther,a lion & so forth. so recoloring a wolf as a tiger isn't a big stretch for hasbro for the beastwars toy line.

Honestly this Tigerhawk toy looks nothing like a transmetal 2 toy. as it has no cyborg added sculpted parts on the toy.

And concept art for good measure. Look at those feline features and roboparts...

While he is a Transmetal thanks to the Vok, he would not be a Transmetal 2 due to not having been exposed to the Transmetal driver. Transmetal 2's are a very specific type of mutation. He's a Transmetal Fusor, the only one outside of the 3H comics and Universe line. With Tigerhawk, the combination of Tigatron and Airazor is more powerful than any single bot alone. It's similar to how the Combiners are stronger than the 5/6 bots that make them up together. Now imagine how much more powerful say, Devastator would be if the Constructicons sparks were to permanently fuse into one. And don't give me the old "there were no sparks in G1" argument. Matrix + laser cores x Primus = sparks totally still work in G1.

Tigerhawk was a late addition of a nearly scrapped cat/bird/robot. Your argument is invalid.

The only disappointment in any of the Transmetal lines was the fact that they like to shed chrome like my cats shed fur in the summer. Awesome looking toys are no longer so awesome looking once that happens.

Otherwise, I liked TM2s. From the unconventional cyborg design to the introduction of the spark crystals. Great fun.

As for original Transmetals, I am annoyed by the fact that if I so much as even breath in the general direction of my TM1 Megs he will likely disintegrate into a pile of plastic powder due to GPS. (I'm not willing to chance it, so he goes untouched and off limits).

Disclaimer: This is my opinion below. I state nothing as fact.

My theories on why some TF fans experience chrome flaking & others don't experience chrome flaking on their TM1 toys is as follows:

(1) Most of the time the first batch or two is always flawed. because it's gets rushed to stores. later waves probably get made slower & get better tested for flaws.

(2) I think TM1 Chrome flaking has a lot to due to the climate where a person lives. in the really hot places like the deep south in america or california or hot countries like the middle east. perhaps the hot weather is too much for the TM1 chrome & it flakes. I live in new york & it's perfectly well balanced weather thru the year. I experience zero chrome flaking on my TM1 toys.

(3) I honestly think some play way too hard with their TF toys. some smash toys up against each other trying to re-create role play cartoon episodes. some take their TF toys in the bath & play with them in the tub under water. some don't know how to display TF toys properly they leave them on display shelves right near a hot or cold window. some TF fans buy huge plastic totes & throw all their loose TF toys in them.
some leave their TF toys outside or in their hot car when they travel. and the list goes on. these are toys their not meant to last forever. the better you take care of the toys, the longer they last & look better. if you don't know how to take good care of your toys, then ofcause their gonna look horrible & break. everyone likes to blame the toy company but the company doesn't guarantee these kids toys will last forever. if you want them to last forever dip them into liquid bronze or gold or silver plate these TF toys.

Weapon: Null-Ray Rifle
I live in New Orleans (the "Deep South") and none of my Transmetal figures have flaked at all. Some of my TM and TM2 figures that are on constant display include Rampage, Depthcharge, TM2 Megatron, Optimal Optimus, Dinobot 2, and Tigerhawk. The only figure I've had flaking issues with is Beast Machines Ultra Jetstorm. And even in that case, it's not so much flaking as it is the metal flakes forming little bubbles that are barely noticeable. The one figure that has given me grief regarding flaking is RID Optimus Prime. I think that's just because you pretty much have to scrape against the metal flakes to get him into super mode though.

But I think you may be right regarding playing with figures and making the chrome flake. I don't play with my figures at all. Hell, I rarely even transform them unless I'm storing them to make room for new figures. As a result, flaking as never been an issue for me at all aside from the RID Prime that I mentioned earlier.
