[quote="Bumblebee-otch"]there are a few problems i have with the story:
***spoiler alert***
-the irish woman said that the safe-zone was in vermont because the virus couldn't handle cold weather. if this was true, then why was new york being evacuated IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER!?
-how did the woman and her son even get to new york if all the bridges and tunnels were blown? (don't forget, they even drove to vermont at the end)
-neville said that the leader poked his head out into the sunlight because he lost all sense of self-preservation. it was obvious he was pissed because he had one of his own taken from him. he also said that there were no human characteristics left in the monsters. if this was true, then how did the leader set the trap? some doctor.
-when his dog was dying, why didn't he take precautions like he had with the vompie-girl and the rats and detain sam first? he should have known the effects of the cure, if any, and that it would take time to affect the patient.
-i think the biggest problem i have with the story is that he WASN'T the last man on earth. after spending over an hour with a man who has been alone for three years, we feel sorry for him and sympathize with him. then some hollywood writer comes along and not only trivializes his existence, they have him kill himself for no apparent reason. i have never felt more cheated in a movie.
end rant/spoilers

!More Spoilers!
Well, last I checked, temperatures during winter in New York City and Vermont were not universal, so it probably stands to reason that the airborn virus dies out at a certain temperature.
They ramped the bridge? Either that or they took a page from the Blues Brothers and rolled up the windows and drove under water. Only thing I could come up with.
I look at Neville not realizing why the alpha male was doing what he was doing was because he was so focused on finding a cure, and that the night-stalkers showed no sort of social structure or human characteristics before then, he just assumed the alpha male was nuts.
You're best friend and only companion for 1000 days alone has been a dog, your dog has just been bit, and you have yet to find a cure that works, so you know his fate is inevitable. How would you act? Logically? Doubt it.
They trivialized his existence? He sacrificed himself to save the girl and the child so they could get the cure out for the virus that wiped out a good chunk of the worlds population. Had he hid in the safe with them, what would have happened? The night-stalkers would have ripped it open and killed them all. He chose the only viable solution, sacrificing himself to eliminate the threat in order to save humanity. That is no trivialization, nor is it being killed for no reason. Thats the most noble type of thing anyone could do. He'd live on for what he did for centuries, he'd be a legend(hence the name.)
