After I saw the figure, I was very annoyed about the lack of SG-ness. But just this morning it hit me. He is colored like his pretender shell! And before you say "Yeah, so?". This is supposed to be the inner robot of the character, correct? Well maybe in the SG-verse the robots inside have the color scheme of their normal universe counterparts shells :-?

Opinions as to the therory?

If he where supposed to be his inner robot, he would turn into a crab and not a hovercraft.

his bot-mode looks more like his pretender shell than his inner robot, in the BotCon toy promo vids the head of FunPub stated that the difference between G1 and SG Octopunch was this:

G1 = evil Deep-sea diver
SG = heroic Scuba diver

I just use him as Classics Octopunch and call it a day. That head works better for Octopunch than it did for Seaspray in my opinion anyway.

Same. I slapped a purple 'con sticker on him and I'm awaiting the inevitable diving bell helmet. I do hope whoever makes it will also do tentacles that will clip on to his handlebars on his shoulders.

it'd probably come with a new head/head covering, clip on tenticles, a new blaster or missiles to insert into his current one, shin guards to fill out the legs, and a new codpeice with the skull on it :michaelbay:

Recent homages to the Pretenders; Bludgeon, Thunderwing/Sky Shadow, Skullgrin and Octopunch have preferred to homage the outer shell as opposed to the inner robots.

I guess because the outer shells were more often featured in the comics and because they have more uniqueness and character over the bland inner bots.

It's not a Shattered Glass thing, but rather the way in which Hasbro likes to reference Pretenders without returning to the old concept.

As someone who has G1 Bludgeon, Slullgrin and Octopunch... the new ones are better. Pretenders sucked. We're better off without that gimmick.

I like the way it looks but I think they could have used a different figure. I think they could have used PCC undertow and make some new limbs that don't transform and that do look like octopus tentacles but would have knees, elbows, fists with 5mm peg holes, you know the works. But I'm still happy with the one that was made.
