The art tends to be great. It's amazed me how you can have such a range of expressions on a robots face when he has a visor AND a mouthplate. And Rung is great. Yay! Eyebrows! :)

yeah, liking Rung/eyebrows in this series too. And Alex Milne’s art is a perfect fit, captures both the bots expressions and the action sequences very well. Looking forward to book four.

@KorsO witty is definitely the word I would use for the dialogue.

That's one point of view. Another is that a section of the fanbase got tired of being sold toilet paper disguised as a TF comic.

AHM, The Costa Run or both? ;)
Roberts. Starting with the last 3rd of MTMTE.

Granted I've only really read Dying of The Light so far, but I don't see how it can be worse than AHM, the Costa run or even Heart of Darkness.

It's sad that the adventures of the lost light are coming to an end, but I hope there's scope for a similar setup in the new continuity, even if it's told in tales four - six issues long.

I hope that whatever it is they do, they don't kill off characters willy nilly like they've been doing. As long as a character has a good and emotional well thought out death then that's fine.

It's when they do stupid stuff like cut the one guy in half who can go invisible, or knock a combiner out of combined mode when the guy can form a force field and let the members all get gunned down by their so-called allies from behind.

As long as that **** doesn't happen anymore.

I will agree with this point. the whole LL issue 12 wasn't very good to me, and it's up there as one of my least favorite issues of Transformers comics ever.

Thanks for reminding me of that. I almost gave up on comics with that issue. Really, supremely depressing for no reason other than to either say "This didn't happen, mind-fake", or "this did happen, and we just turned a great combiner team and a spy into fodder for no reason other than shock and awe" (more like "Shock and naw").

So would you say heart of darkness is the worst of idw then? In my opinion it's ahm hands down, there was some silly decisions there that took a lot to fix. Though that's why I was more interested in the op comic when they did all Hail Optimus as it was clearly a deliberate naming choice to invoke that series...which would have been more interesting if the hasbroverse existed then.

HoD is among the worst, not The Worst. It was certainly one of the biggest "What we they thinking?" moments of the entire IDW series.

It's hard to decide on The Worst in IDW, so I usually give a split decision between AHM and the Costa run.

Yes I did. And that's where my nerdrage towards LL and Roberts comes from. I enjoyed MTMTE up to that point very much. Then the arc leading up to Dying of the Light was kinda weak, but I forgave it because I was looking forward to the title going out with a bang, in the form of Megatron taking on the DJD. And then...we got what we got. So disappointed. It reminded me of the ending of Kill Bill vol. 2, where we waited through 2 movies for the Bride and Bill to have an epic showdown, and all we got was a dumbass speech and a Finger Poke of Doom, and that's it. I understood why it happened that way, but it could have been so much more spectacular. Same with MTMTE. I understood why Megatron did what he did (and I even liked that Trailbreaker got a small measure of revenge, even after death), but it was such a waste, considering the build up. And then they followed it up with Titans Return, which was mediocre at best, and then LL, which is what it is. So unless Roberts finds a way to finish the entire continuity in grand fashion, the last half of his work on the MTMTE story will be a worthless waste.

Thanks for the explanation roddy :-) looking back over titan returns I can't make my mind up over if he tried his best with what he was given to work with or if he just half-assed it because he didn't want to do the tie in. Titan returns (comic version) overall felt very lackluster from what they could have done if they had chose but it's done now for better or worse. This should definitely be something they learn from going forward.

Everything from Megatron Origin til Maximum Dinobots (or the Revelation Spotlights? I forget which was last)was outstanding. Last Stand of the Wreckers was also fantastic. The quality in IDWverse dipped significantly After Furman.

AHM was Sunbow: The Comic! Which was both very dated and completely out of place in IDWverse.
The Costa Run: A trainwreck
Heart of Darkness: "WTF!?!" x 1000
Infestation: pure Editorial Mandate Tie-in fodder
CHAOS: Megatron Fanfic
DoOP: Optimus Fanfic

RiD and MTMTE/LL: I haven't read enough of to judge them above 'average' but, we've had a lot worse than a writer's dip in quality prior to these series from IDW. Context and perspective are key, after all.

It was maximum Dinobots that was before ahm.

Also calling doop a op fanfic is a bit harsh since it was just a single issue about him and his decision to step away for almost two years.

Again, I'll state that AHM is the only good thing IDW has ever done. The Furman stuff was terrible. Still don't know why people seem to think he's a good writer. The ONLY good thing he ever wrote was Dreamwave's War Within.

Costa wrote better and his stuff was GARBAGE.

These books could have had such promise if they had actually bothered to write the characters better and actually stuck to at least their core personalities. But they didn't. They ruined Prowl, they ruined Jazz (hardly even using him which should be a crime to begin with given how awesome he is), They ruined Megatron, they ruined Shockwave, they ruined the Dinobots (smart Dinobots is the dumbest idea ever). They ruined Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Kup, Blaster, Jetfire, I mean the list goes on and on....

This reboot, with any luck, will fix this crap.

Nah its deffo Heart of darkness for the "worst series" award.

AHM pisses me off cause it caused the premature end of furmans run (which if it was allowed to end organically probably wouldve been one of the best runs ever. im STILL amazed he managed to tie up what he did at all with the space given)

but even i can admit AHM had its moments. what they did with frenzy for instance , or astrotrains alt mode being an actual bad ass threat for once. and even though its decompressed to hell when you DO read it in one sitting it makes coherent sense.

Heart of darkness is like doing drugs. i actually cant believe abnett and lanning wrote it its so incoherrent. it makes me wonder if they were told to scrap the story they wrote mid release and change course. they clearly had something set up but none of it panned out for what happened in the chaos event it was supposed to prequel .

honestly i think its ONLY redeeming feature is it showed just how good a writer barber is for getting ANY of it to make sense (thinkbox and the ancient headmasters for one) in relation to the normal continuity.

THEN avengers. god that was bad.

Finished book four of MTMTE, best book yet, series just keeps getting better.

Book starts out with a story called ‘before and after’. Really solid story, plays off the characterizations of the Lost Light crew very well. Some greatly depicted action pages too.

lol at tailgate’s happy place.

Drift- ‘the ones with swords are mine, remember?’

Next story is Swerve and his posse going on an adventure to alien pub, and getting Ultra Magnus drunk and then jumping up and down on the duly appointed enforcer of the tyrest accord. Brilliant. I don’t know when the last time I laughed at a comic so much.

It then leads into the whole overlord storyline. Oh **** that was nuts. I’ll have to reread some of that, was a lot in that. But poor Pipes and poor Rewind. I suspect Rewind will be back somehow someway, Rewind is to awesome to be got rid of like that.

All in all a very good read.

Anode continues to be aggravating as hell, and here Lug is not better either. (In the issues before I tolerated Lug and found her to be the less annoying character)

But I actually chuckled at the Lightning Rod joke. (Could actually pull off as a Transformer name too)

I don't see what the problem is with them, I like them. Though its going to be interesting to see if they have any part to play in the unicron saga...and I'm still getting mazinger vibes from those giants.
