Absolutely not and never should...

I won't miss it once its gone like others I embraced the peace-era but for me it just didn't deliver especially the last 3-4 years.

I've loved and hated some things IDW has done.

So I'm happy for another company to start another continuity with fresh creators and ideas.

You didn't type that with a straight face did you? Because the Dreamwave stuff was leagues better in every way, especially art.

But yes, an example of what someone liked would be nice, that is the point of a discussion thread. Instead all you hear is, THIS IS GREAT, when it simply isn't.

ZeroWolf wrote:Instead why do you feel the characters have to act as certain way? New continuities in transformers is nothing new, and that's what idw is, a new continuity. It never pretended to be a replacement for the g1 toon and comic, they are still there. If you don't like it fine, but there are those of us who aren't going in to idw expecting it to tread old ground that's already well worn. What would be the point? Seeing megatron be more evil? Seen it. A thousand times seen it. Megatron struggling with his conscience? That's new, gimme more of that. Let the characters go beyond their bios, let them grow and develop. Let them question their alligances, commitment to their cause. Worse comes to worse you don't have to support them, but at least agree to disagree with those that do support them.

What deems the characters to act a certain way? How about if they don't want people to expect them to act like their G1 incarnations then you don't draw them like them.

That's why. The characters have very unique personalities in G1 that make them very interesting, moreso than what they've done with them in IDW. Everyone acts the same in these books, they're all back stabbing betraying murderous asshats.

The only interesting characters they've had they kill off or hardly use.

the art was better huh?

Image

also i hate to break it to you but the characters in G1 have several different personalities depending on your fiction.

in the cartoon Prowl was a soldier and all around good guy. In the marvel he was sometimes cold and logical and did everything based on number, his toy bio reflected that. IDW based prowl off his toy and marvel bio.

Shockwave was originally depicted as a cold being who only believed in logic. Marvel IDW even somewhat of DW did it, cartoon? hes megatrons butler.

Soundwave in the cartoon is Megatrons most loyal soldier. in marvel comics and toy hes depicted as someone whos always listening to dig up dirt and blackmail anyone to benefit himself. IDW merged all the charcteristics.

Grimlock. Cartoon he and the dinobots are idiots and are nothing but muscle to the autobots and by season three were borderline mentally challanged and comic relief. EVERY other depiction has then being bad boys that are actually smart, ruthless tough guys who break rules once in a while becuase they dont agree with orders.

i hate to break it to you but IDW for the most part has been more faithful to characters than most fiction. the Cartoon ignored most of their characters backgrounds that were all created by Bob Budianski unless they got an individual episode about them but immediately after were forgotten.

but lets also go back to better art shall we?

squat post where limbs are not actually attached to the bodies

Image

squat pose

Image

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:G1_Vol.1_Issue2_1.jpg

squat pose bumblebees feet are bigger than his body. also whats going on with cliffjumpers feet behid bee? they literally floating infront of his body

Image

http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/7/77/G1_Vol.1_Issue3_1.jpg

squat pose again just look at Bumblebee. jesus...and look at prime. what is even going on here?

Image

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:G1_Vol.2_Issue1_1.jpg

lets take a look at this piece of interior by supposedly the president and founder of Dreamwave Pat lee. i say supposedly because its Pat Lee and he was having artists draw the comics and putting name on the books.

Image

Optimus has three tires on one side and 2 on another and theyre not even located where tires on a truck would be.

Yup? much superior art from 16 years ago than what we get now.

LOL, Pat Lee's art is no better than the garbage in MOST of IDW's. And Cartoon Dinobots are better than all other versions of them. Prowl was awesome in the cartoon, he sucked in the comics. Shockwave sucked in the cartoon. Soundwave was awesome in the cartoon,

It's funny you only picked Pat Lee for the art and left out all other amazing talent. I can do the same with IDW. You don't get to cherry pick here, this is about overall quality and Dreamwave had it and IDW doesn't. FACT

I'm looking forward to seeing how this Unicron event brings everything to a close. Rarely do we get the opportunity for a planned, total closure to a TF story.

Introducing Unicron into IDWverse now, does also point out something that hasn't really come up in IDW books (to my knowledge) - Alternate Futures. Of course the trope is a comic book staple but IDWverse hasn't really shown even a glimpse of "the future" since Pax Cybertronia. Sure we've seen alternate timelines, but no one has really seemed to address anything other than Ironhide's account (which was neutered pre-Dark Cybertron anyway).

I'm curious as to why. Perhaps it comes down to IDWverse mixing all continuities into the present day? As I've mentioned before, who does that leave to play with as the Descendants of the Autobots, Decepticons and Colony Worlds?

LoL ... the term Realism from the images is the one bothering you now is it?   my goodness.

Ok, will make it more clearer in your words Mr Tool Sir :D

...
Don DREAMWAVE's work? Are you kidding me buddy... The guy LOATHED big time trying to avoid his then Dreamwave boss, mr Pat superstar Lee's 'In-House art Style' instruction to make the bots look a certain aesthetic; puffy & bloated. Why do you think his designs looked semi bloated (refer War Within image below)?
Even then, you can see he subtly tried going against Pat's instructions in his style. Its all over the web man, in Don's own words. Look it up (if your not lazy that is.. lol).

Image

Dont get me wrong. Don's the mannn... in fact I dare say his (along with Guido) Dreamwave run (albeit puffy & much less puffy towards DW G1 season 3), played a huge factor in keeping Dreamwave moving before its untimely demise.

Don & Su are in a class of their own, none better than the other. Instead both hugely complements one another in between '-ations', Stormbringer, Spotlight Optimus, etc...which in turn complement IDW's visual representation as a whole followed by all artist more or less feeding off each others design to keep with visual continuity.

^ Don's continued awesomeness with free creative reign with no In House Puffy Dramwave crap instruction in IDW.

Meticulous & Obvious care on proportion, scale, kibble placement & functionality, updated sensible vehicle mode to reflect the times/era, etc2, all whilst still staying true with clear updated homage to all their G1 incarnation.

Lol.. if still insist on it being "crap" (which is totally Beyond the opposite - FACT  ), then well, thats Too Bad for you buddy to have to put up with IDW since Oct 2005 onwards until today 8-) Glad your disgruntled bout it... hehe.

I guess at the end of the day some people want good artists like what IDW gives while other people who are ignorant want their robots to looks like marshmallows that are held to their with toothpicks and have no regard for physical space and just want robots to stand around in a squatting pose

Lol, Unbelievable. Those are stellar variety of art styles. Livio's, very quirky stylized but has a cinematic charm to it. & Guido. Well GUido is Guido. Hit & misses. Good or bad, dude's a TF Hall of Famer. Plus he did mentioned hes championing the early TF Marvel comic styles. Heads up already given.
The only art that I am not a fan of is Wildman's. Even so, unlike you, Im not petty enough to call (or actually sincerely think) that its garbage. I just effortlessly avoid it.
No harm no foul. Done. Easy.
Still happy i bought the Mentzen, Flint & Livio Autocracy, Monstrocity & Primacy series.

Calling it garbage on a fan runned Tf board over and over and over and over sure is a Big boy Legit move there dreamwave boy.
If it bugs you so much to the point of whining & repeating your empty insults on these boards, why not go straight to the source?
Simon, James, Barber, Ej, Livio, Guido all have twitters buddy. And are constantly daily active as well.
The artists all have Intagram, Tumblr & Deviant art pages too. You can easily throw your 'Garbage' remarks there & have an immediate reply from the source authors.

Why not just do that Big boy? Too busy enjoying the self ball sucking too much? 8-)

Motto: "There are no impossibilities in the multiverse, just small minds unable to comprehend the possibilities"
Weapon: Armor Axe
Oooooooooooooooookay then, that was a fun read.

To answer a question, here is what I like about what IDW has done.

My very first comic book I got was Spotlight: Trailcutter with his Thrilling 30 toy. Loved the read, made my favorite TF of all time seem like such an interesting guy. He tries to be happy, but he's an alcoholic who feels underappreciated and feels like he's a waste of space at times but is loved by others despite this, even if he doesn't really see it. It also introduced me to Whirl, who has proven to be one of my favorite TFs of all time too. He never got to shine before MTMTE, and he has shown bright. His suicidal character that is just filled with rage from a life ruined long ago that has slowly grown to have some emotions that shine through with heavy hints of his asshole personality make him such an interesting character. I refer you to this retweet of mine that sums up my feelings on Whirl, and to some extent Cyclonus:

https://twitter.com/hg_manifold/status/ ... 7561809920

With Spotlight: Trailcutter in the bag, this was around the time MTMTE 21 was coming out, cause I started reading Va'als reviews and trying to figure out who all was on the cover of issue 21. And then I bought the entire MTMTE run, and then RiD, and then I bought all 8 hardbacks covering everything before that. I will admit I did not enjoy All Hail Megatron that much, or the 2009-2011 ongoing, save for Thundercracker, who thanks to the 2nd half of that series and the recent Transformers comics has become my favorite seeker, and one of my favorite cons of all time. Seeing a seeker who is still so bloody lethal and can easily hold his own try to live in peace and get along with members of other races is great, and I have enjoyed his run. Similar thing with Cyclonus, an old patriot who is trying to keep going, has some pent up rage and hurt, and self harms rather than talks about it, but he has been great. He and Whirl are probably the best pairing of TFs that I have personally read and enjoyed, just beating out Dinobot/Rattrap and Bulkhead/Bumblebee from animated.

But the -ations period was good, I enjoyed EJ Sus art, and I liked the new and interesting style. Still classic, but refreshed, modern, and more realistic without going full on movie-verse (which isn't a bad thing if you do it right, unlike Don, I was brought into the fandom thanks to movies). Maximum Dinobots was fun, and the recent books post Death of Optimus Prime have been stellar too.

The real shining light though? Nick Roche and the Wreckers. Both series were amazing, I loved them, they made the Wreckers awesome for me, they made me care about a bunch of nobodies I had never heard of before, it made it even cooler when all the Wreckers started getting new toys. Roche made the Wreckers great, and he made some of the best stories in Transformers history.

As for art, Su did good. I wasn't a big fan of Guido, but after reading RG1, I am better with him, I definitely enjoyed him in that series. Griffith did some marvelous work with RiD, Roche is awesome, my 2nd favorite artist, and Sara Stone, Pitre-Durocher, and Zama have been great as well. But Alex Milne is my favorite, hands down. His art panders directly to my heart. It is so detailed, so thought out, you can read the same issue 10 times and find new stuff in the art everytime. His attention to everything is marvelous, and he truly is a spectacular artist, my favorite, no contest there. And I am super stoked he is doing Unicron because of the detail. Unicron is a frikkin planet ok? He cannot and should not be simple. Milne is the perfect artist for the Chaos Bringer, and the Chaos Bringer is perfect for Milne.

IDW gave us great character moments, some great characters, and some great art. They expanded upon several character's bios immensely, and the made old characters feel fresh and fun. Swerve, Whirl, Sunstreaker, Soundwave, Thundercracker, Shockwave, Arcee, Trailcutter, Prowl, so many good examples of characters who were done right and done fun. Not to mention some of the new and original characters. Nautica is probably the best new character we have gotten in a long time, she is very unique and very fun, my favorite of the ladies, and great fun with Brainstorm. Windblade, Victorion, Riptide, all well done and new.

Not to mention how every single character ever made was fair game. Animated Lightbright ended up with Sparkstalker, helping turn a con into a new character. Midnight Express and others in OP showing up. Bulkhead being a pre-war construction foreman (keeping his characterization there!), The beast wars guys, most prominently Tarantulas in Wreckers (Roche again!), it's all been so much fun.

I will be sad to see the series go. It took something at the time 20 years old, and ran with it for 14 years, and made some great stories, great new characters, introduced us to some great writers and artists, including the most detailed artist and the master of continuity themselves. But here's hoping whatever happens is good as well.

Wreckers is head and shoulders above everything else I've read in IDW and before it. Granted at this point I've only read LoSTW so far but, it's just that good.

I jumped into IDW with Stormbringer and LoSTW. Both were a breath of fresh air to this series. Megatron: Origin and The -Ations came next and to me you couldn't ask for a better introduction to Transformers. Alongside the Spotlights which, aside from Mirage, were just the right amount of re-imagining G1 needed, Post-Beast Wars/BM. My interest waned significantly after that with McCarthy, Costa and The Death of Optimus Prime. The point I tapped out.

Unicron is always the great equaliser in TF Lore. If his appearance means the board gets wiped clean, I am at this point interested to see where a bold new TF world would go next.

He wasn't much of an equaliser when he shown up on armada and energon ;-) he was more of the...final boss fight.

:-D

That's what makes him the equaliser. No matter how outlandish and futuristic Transformers can go, Unicron's mere presence alone usually reigns the series in and brings it back to basics. That's why, post-G1, he is usually the last card to play in any Transformers series.

You know how Rodimus Prime is a Space Winnebago? Well...

I think it's time for Space Springebago 8-)

Really though, Springer will probably get the Armada Starscream ending out of all of this, but that's fine and feels appropriate.

Yup, 100% EJ sucks, can't even stand looking at that ****. Don's Dreamwave stuff is amazing, his IDW stuff is amazing, until the Ongoing started and then he decided to go all Michael Bay **** style.

Lol.. Yup, then that's a 1000% solid Fact confirmation your visual judgement & preference Sucks balls buddy  .
Damn lucky, Thank goodness these comic publishing houses doesn't have you or anyone similar deciding on the art direction..hehea  .

Thank you for spending years of personal time & money on all of IDW comic runs btw ;)

**Never imagined it was possible to come across someone worse & deluded than Bay. :michaelbay:

I think the only ball sucking here, is done by you.

Look at this garbage

https://livioramondelli.deviantart.com/ ... -449056320

or this

https://guidoguidi.deviantart.com/art/T ... -416040063

or this

https://art.alphacoders.com/arts/view/71816

And that's just some of their worst offenders.

You're the one who clearly doesn't know what good art is

I've actually told EJ Su what I think of his art thank you, and the unbelievable part here is that you think any of that is good. Welcome to the list of polished turds who like crappy art

Space winnebago...urge to watch spaceballs rising...

Someone will have to go the route of armada starscream though I thought it might actually be starscream who did it.
