Autobots have Ultra Magnus as 2nd in command and Sky Lynx and Grimlock as the Lieutenant Commander. Starscream is 2nd in command and Soundwave as Lieutenant Commander for the Decepticons. If G1 never ended the series and have the Headmasters, Targetmasters, Powermasters and Micromasters TV series do you guys think its better that Fortress Maximus/Cerebros take over as 2nd in command and have Magnus as Lieutenant Commander for the Autobots and have Scorponok/Zarak take over as 2nd in command and Sixshot as Lieutenant Commander for the Decepticons?

magnus isnt the 2nd in command. he was a commander.

In the pilot, Jazz always struck me as being Prime's "number one", so to speak. But that finished after the pilot and the Autobots looked less like a military unit, with nobody taking the role of second in command until Season 3.

Similarly none of the Decepticons under Megatron particularly stood out as having more authority than the others until Season 3 when Cyclonus was clearly Galvatron's second.

Soundwave always struck me as being more of a personal assistant to Megatron. The guy who deals with the numbers and the tedious work while Megatron focuses his attention on fighting and giving orders.

I'm told that Fort Max is a horrible leader. I've only gotten to watch a few Headmasters episodes. I thought he was decent. Was he really a horrible leader?

I couldn't say. The Headmasters series didn't capture my interest so I didn't watch it.

Ultra Magnus may have been "a" commander but he was not "the" commander.That title belonged to Rodimus Prime in season 3 and Ultra Magnus did infact serve as his 2nd in command.

This was also how it was portrayed in the Japanese Headmaster serries for the most part till Rodimus left Fort Max in command. Well sort of anyway. :grin:
