300 (possible spoilers)

We've all seen the trailers. We(should) all know the story.
Theres only a few hours before the film hits theatres. I'm planning on seeing the midnight showing.
The movie so far looks magnificent, it's been a long time since we've gotten a good Greek history/mythological movie.
Hopefully it'll live up to it's hype.

But it's not really historical (even in a mythological sense). Despite that, it still looks like a great film. I plan on trying to see it this weekend if I have the time.

Tell me about it; I spent a semester living and breathing the Battle of Thermopylae, and Frank Miller's Wakowski-style butchering of one of the greatest true action stories ever told makes me sick.
I hate the whole determination to improve on reality...

That's what I was thinking. Granted, as I said, this looks like a good movie, based on a comic book, based on twisted history.
I want a REAL movie that accurately depicts what happened without all the monsters and stuff.
BTW, in your studies of BoT Caelus, did you ever look at the Battle of He Fei that took place in China in 218 A.D. (I think).
Very similar circumstances with an extremely outnumbered force, but ended with the small force winning and driving back the larger force.
If they made a movie about Zhang Liao's triumph over Sun Quan, I would love it.

No, drawing parallels to other similar battles was outside the scope of the project at the time - although now, 2 or 3 years later, I can think of a good way to have worked such a section into the research paper.
Ah, hindsight is 20/20.

Just got back from seeing the movie. It was friggin' awesome. I can't even describe correctly how great it was.
The scenery was beautifully done, the shots used were astounding. The action was beyond my expectations. It even had some damned decent humor, not enough to make it corny, but enough to get through a tense moment.
The only thing that I felt lacking, was how slow the movie started off, granted it was necessary to tell the story of Leonids and Sparta, but was still a little slow.
Aside from the liberties taken on Frank Millers part, like the adding of larger than life characters(note: the use of 'monsters' was few and far between, and not what you'd expect on how they're used) on Persia's side, it made the spartans look just that more badass when they dropped them left and right. I didn't really pick up much that was historically inacurate with the battle, granted I haven't read about the battle of Thermopylae in years.
But the movie was damned enjoyable. Now, if only I can see it again and not be in the neck injury front row section.

I've got a spoiler for you. In the end, every single man in the Spartan force is dead. (at least historically)

In case you couldn't see it... Rorshach from Watchmen!

As of now, there's no way to confirm how legit it is. It could be just a test shot from Zack Snyder's next project

the thing that surprised me most was the number of kids in the audience. seriously, what the hell kind of parent brings their six-year-old to a brutal slaughterfest of a movie like 300?

Or how about the sex scene? For a minute, I thought I was in an X rated film.

Well life for the spartan male was particullarly tough, as a child you were forced into military service as required by the state if you were weak you merely died in training, and you were forced into military service for most of your adult life (though not to say long military services weren't common in that age). You only came home to get married or to have a child but then you were sent off again.
Leonidus's story is tragic that his death could have been avoided. The Persians attacked during a Spartan Holiday so the army was forbidden to leave so Leonidus took 300 men and went off knowing he would die and if he didn't it would be a blow to his families honor since they were supposedly descendants of Herakles and by right were supposed to defend the country because of birthright. It was a lose lose situation. Luckily they were able to hold them off for so long since they confronted the persians and a relatively small pass battlenecking most of the Persian forces.

I just got back from seeing it and I must say, I was honestly impressed. Lots of gore and violence, but through it all there was a sense of enjoyment and simple admiration for the variety of ways a person can be stabbed, poked, slashed, or stomped on the battlefield. The Spartans' demeanor and Leonidus's one-liners never failed to get chuckles from the audience.
Next up on Pimp My Jeager.

The non-stop violence was certainly amusing, and there were some great lines, but I think Ghost Rider is a better film
