3D movies and the near sighted

I'm one of the few people in the world who have yet to see Avatar. I was actually planning to go see it today but discovered that the only showings are in 3D.

Now that may not be an issue to some of you. But I wear glasses. I've tried to get those cheap arsed 3D glasses to fit over mine but they're more trouble than they're worth.

And then I just read that the upcoming Green Lantern movie will be in 3D and plans are underway for the new Ridley Scott Alien movie to be in 3D. Toss in Toy Story 3, Harry Potter and a host of other movies and the 3D thing is taking off.

What I want to know though is if there's anyone out there who is in my position and has to wear glasses and if you've worked out a way to see these movies without having to spend ages trying to get the 3D glasses into the right position.

Or are 3D movies over-rated and not worth it?

I think in certain movies, such as Up and possibly Avatar, 3D is beneficial and helps with the immersion into the movie.

However I see it being used far too often in movies that simply do not need it IMO. I think it's just an excuse to get bigger budgets and to charge more at the theater.

I also wear glasses, but find that the glasses used here do a pretty decent job at compensating for them. It's not perfect but it's close.

Are you talking about the cardboard frame with the thin plastic "lenses," or the hard plastic ones that look more like actual (If not terribly cheap) sunglasses? If it's the cardboard ones, I guess you could try wearing them under your glasses, but I don't know about the hard plastic kind.

I don't see movies in 3D. I just don't see the point. I want to hear the story and see the visuals, I don't want to be distracted by someone who isn't there trying to jab me in the eyeballs. (Also the reason I don't do LSD)

I watched Avatar with the IMAX glasses over my own. I felt fine but towards the middle, I had to take both off and blink a few times before headaches creep in.

Have you tried contact lenses instead of glasses, might be an idea to get a pair and wear those when you want to watch a movie in 3D.
Personally I think Avatar is the only movie that isn't ruined by the 3D effect, I'm pretty sure that 3D will once again disappear into oblivion just like the last 3 times.

I haven't seen Avatar, it came out when I was getting deployed. So I will just have to see it on Blu-ray when it comes out. I saw Up with my X a while back and it looked great. No headaches or anything.

I only think a few movies should be in 3D though. Mostly Animated if that.

I hear you. I don't want to have bits of plastic stuck up against my eyeball (Which I know happen to slip of out place and hurt like hell, or fall off and disappear forever), or a doctor shooting a cutting laser into my eye. I know it's an exaggeration, but it's stuff I don't want to deal with...

That, and without my glasses I have noticeable circles under my eyes that make me look like a Zombie.

The only thing different I got out of seeing Avatar in 3D and in non-3D was a headache from the glasses. I don't see what the big deal about 3D is, anyway. Pretty overrated, if you ask me. I'd much rather see a regular movie than shell out a couple of extra bucks for a movie with added optical illusions.

Funny thing about that, though the stories in both are very similar, there's so much setting the two apart you wouldn't even know it unless you weren't paying attention to the story. For example, I don't recall Dances with Wolves having a huge battle between space ships and giant flying lizard monsters. And I certainly don't remember Dances with Wolves having giant robots.

I can't afford movies right bow but from what my brother says, 3d movies aren't for us with glasses. I read most of the reasons why we should go to the regular version and I've got one more that doesn't even have to do with glasses.

If you're color blind, you're screwed at the 3d. I am, my brother is and we can't watch them. The colors they use or whatever it is is messed up for us. So all it is is a fast moving blurr that made him sick. He left Alice in Wonderland 3d after 5 minutes and paid for the cheaper 2d version.

Oh, you can do better than that...

In other news, 10 Things I Hate About You is just The Taming of the Shrew.

WJ35's point is valid, if not original.

Avatar was a fine film. I enjoyed it, but it's not as if the film isn't borrowing liberally from existing story types.

I am a fellow eye glass wearer. The newer plastic 3D glasses didn't cause any problems with vision or comfort.

I would have to agree that the only movie that I have seen in 3D that was worth it was Avatar.

I recently went to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D and expected the same type of experience as Avatar. This was not the case.

Wait I just re-read that, the nest ALIEN will be in 3D? If done right that would be awesome simply for the experience to have a face huger flying at me or having a chestburster leaping into the camera =P~
OK I am sick...

I like 3-D, but now, I look at all of these 3-D movies coming out. And almost every last movie to come out this year so far has been 3-D, and its really starting to annoy me. I like 3-D, but the way they're doing it now, is just gimmickey-ass bullshit! But I'd like to see Ironman 2 in 3-D, that would be freking AWSUM!!! Everything else is just over used crap. I want to see more action movies in 3-D not this disney and dreamworks crap...not that I dont like those too. :CON:

Go with a friend. Wait till lights go down. Get friend to cough or bitch or something, thus distracting theatre security-ninjas while you break a leg off the 3D glasses. Repeat. Attach 3D lenses to front of your own glasses with tape.

Admittedly, this will require you to have a friend, so there could be a problem with this plan straight away. ;)

PS, yes they are over-rated.

PPS Jesus, Coughler, I musta made that sig of yours like over 900 years ago or something. Nice to see it again.
