a question about the 80's animated movie

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

a question about the 80's animated movie

Postby genozaur » Wed Nov 26, 2008 11:51 am

I found this picture of Ultra Magnus unmasked over on deviant art.

here is the link

http://metallic-grass.deviantart.com/ar ... t-70998186

i also found this clip of the japanese movie trailer to the 80's animated movie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JcInL9_Jdc
from 231 to 237 it shows ultra magnus sporting his diaclone color scheme

i also found this youtube clip where it shows future trunks going super saiyan for the first time in a rather extreme moment of greif
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9FqPjN8pgo

depending on the continuity when it comes to Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime they have at times been portrayed as either being close friends with one another to the point of being like a brother to one another or have actually been brothers in the true family sense.

Let me know what you think of this
i have put together a scene based on the picture in which said scene is a transformer take on the trunks scene

depending on the continuity when it comes to Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime they have at times been portrayed as either being close friends with one another to the point of being like a brother to one another or have actually been brothers in the true family sense.

consider this an attempt on my part to explore both of those scenarios when it comes to this scene being set in the g1 animated continuity and also taking place after Primes death bed scene in the 80's animated movie. this greif scene is pretty much a straight take on the trnuks scene

the link for the deathbed scene
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_ULg4RSy5Y

this is the only change i would make to the script for the death bed scene.

"Ultra Magnus, Optimus continued " it is to you my brother, I shall pass the mantle of Leadership to you, as it was once passed to me by our father."

"Alpha Trion" Ultra Magnus spoke as he stared at Prime in shock.. "But Orion...I'm...I'm just a soldier... I'm not worthy." He clasped Optimus's outstretched hand and held it tight in both of his, wishing he could hold on to his friend's life as well. Optimus's optics softened. He needs the reassurance I had. With our darkest hour almost here, he'll never get it. I'm sorry, Ultra Magnus, I'm sorry my brother "Nor was I Dion,

with that slight change to the scene script wise it would set up this scene for Ultra Magnus

A scene in which Ultra Magnus in an all together stumbling shambling manner makes his way out of the med room which is the room Optimus died in.

He is walking across the battle scarred metallic flooring of the courtyard in a slow determined and yet at the same time all together semi-zombie like manner.

His state of mind for the scene is what one could think of as being an intense and all together unyielding form of psychological shell shock. That is to say that he is literally going through an all too personal emotional experience of loss and greif that his mind has literally been robbed for the time being of the ability to comprehend what has actually happened to him, much less understand or comprehend the situation in anywhere near a semi-lucid manner.

With each and every step he takes towards the center of the courtyard his armored form opens up little by little and bit by bit .

First at the raised armored shoulder columnes as they rotate back and behind his armored shoulders then at the front of his shoulders as they fold out to the sides. The effect then moving on to his upper and lower arms as they split down the center at the the outer side revealing his true inner core robot form bit by bit while hs armored hands fold down and beneath the lower armored arms , while the inner core body retracts its hands outward from the lower arms at the wrists.

The effect continues to his lower torso which splits down the center of the front all the way down to the groin while his upper legs split down the center at the front. As he comes to a stop the helmet portion of his head rotates forward and down over his face while his upper torso and chest moves out and away from him and then finishes the change as it rotates up over his head and onto his back.

All the while that this is happening the weather continues to intensify giving the viewer the impression that an intense storm is building up over head.

At the center of the courtyard stands a large statue mount inside of which is a burning funeral pier.

This part of the scene is meant to be somewhat symbolic in nature when it comes to how the roman's would lay the fallen warriors body out on a funeral pier and set it and the body on fire.

While on top of the statue mount is a life size gold colored statue of optimus.

Magnus is maybe all of 3 whole steps from standing directly in front of the statue as he comes to a stop.

What the viewer sees is a white and silver optimus prime look alike.

As the front of lower legs fold down to the ground he steps out of his suit of armor onto the ground, while the hands of his inner core robot form retract out from the lower arms at the wrists.

He looks up at the face of the statue for a moment as though lost in thought as he drops down to one knee and then bows his head for a moment of silence as he raises his right arm out in front of him with it folding in at the elbow.

His right hand is closed into a fist with it resting over his spark core and energon pump or as we humans could call it his heart.

The moment passes and his hand falls to the side.

The camera moves around to the front of his body and moves in for a close up shot of his face as it begins to rain and the rain begins to trickle down his face. his optics have an all together haunted look to them and his facial features are those of someone coming out of an intense state of shock as reality begins to set in.

To the viewer the scene comes across as being symbolic in nature at first but in such a way that the person watching this scene would slowly but surely realise that some of the liquid streaming down his face is fluid from his optics.

think off it this way their optics can secret o a form of optic fluid primarily for cleansing purposes. in times of intense emotional greif though it can also pass as a way for them to literally cry.

the close up shot fades through to a full body shot of magnus from the front as his hands clench into fists,

his entire body starts to triemble and bristle on him as he slowly sinks to his hands and knees then raises his entire body upright at the waste with his arms raised above his head as he then slams his fists into the metallic flooring leaving a considerably large semi sinkhole like impression in the ground and then raises his head up to the sky and screamed a deafening soul shattering scream that came from the very grief ridden depths of his spark. he screames, he continues to scream and he can't stop as his scream becomes a shreik and then it continues to become louder courser and deeper still as it becomes a ferociouse greif ridden howl of dispair as it becomes even more feral in its existance his vocorder straining, the thick armored plates arond his neck bulging and warping like knotted leather

by this point in the scene his eyse breifly pulse a deepershade of blue as his red white and blue colorscheme fades and then darkens to the colors of the idialcone colorshceme

when magnus was for a time the autobot leader it was made rather clear that he himself did not posess a bond with the matrix like optimus and rhodimus do and as such could not acces the matrix

this is just a thought on my part but when it comes to this greif scene the whole idea i'm going with is that in a rather indirect manner of speaking he could access it through the spark bond that himself shares with optimus as his brother

one could in part see this scene as being a take on ultra magnus's character from rid when it comes to how he was able to on one ocassion access the matrix and use its energy to power up the autobot brothers

in this case though it would be magnus himself that would power up during that whole intense scene of greif

as for the song for the scene im thinking NO EASY WAY OUT could work for it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PywjzO_YpAI

minus the whole powering up bit that whole scene from 1:42-2:12 is the kind of scene i'm trying to describe when it comes to magnus's greif scene

Weapon: Electro-Sword
As a toy Magnus was a white repaint of Optimus Prime that could combine with his trailer to form a super robot called Ultra Magnus.

In the animated movie Magnus was no relation to Optimus Prime. However in Dreamwave's Transformers: Generation One comic book series did state that Prime and Magnus were brothers and that for reasons that were never explained (or maybe they were and I don't remember) Magnus had battle armor that hid this from everyone.

As too why Magnus was in his Diaclone colors in the animated movie's trailer, simple: the movie was in production for over 2 years before it was released and the color scheme hadn't been decided on and it was changed at a later date. If you look at the trailer very little of the animation in it actually made it into the movie.
