Any financial gurus out there?

Today I got a copy of my credit report. The accounts that are in the negative section I knew about and I haven't been paying on. Not out of laziness or neglect, but because I really don't have the extra money. I only made $5800 last year... I found out I don't owe nearly as much as I thought(I owe a lil less then $3000, where I thought I owed near $6000 for some reason). I want to start paying off the three debts that I owe, but I honestly do not know how to go about doing that. I've tried going through google and I don't know what I'm looking at half the time. I'm trying to get my life in order this year, and I figured improving my credit score could help wonders with that.

If anyone has annnnyyy helpful advice, please share. I live in Ohio if that makes any difference at all.

You have bad credit because you don't pay your bills.

You want to improve your score? Pay your bills.

We can't even BEGIN to discuss improving your score until you stop avoiding your debts.

Oh I know that, but I don't know how to acquire the information to pay them. I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this the right way. I haven't had contact with any of the three companies I owe money too in a really long time. I guess when I said I wanted to improve my score, I meant to pay off my debts. I pay all my current bills on time every month and in full. Paying off stuff from the past is what I'm having a hard time doing. I have a little extra money left over from bills now, but I want to use it towards the past.

I think I said that right.

Be Cheap Wherever u can:

Use coupons

Make coffee at home instead of star bucks everyday. my friend was spending 2300 a year on coffee! That is until i added it up for him

Avoid eating out frequently.

Remove features on your cable/internet/phone you can go without. Such as the extended package for cable or caller id on ur phone.

Use cash instead of debit or credit.

Check your balance over the phone or machine every couple days so u know where u at.

Evertime you break a bill put the change into a can or jar. Dont count it for six months to a year dont spend it. I did this last year and i recently counted 275 dollars in pennies nickels dimes quarters and loonies and toonies.

Minimize luxuries: renting movies/video games, car washes,.

Set ur credit card to automatically transfer an apropiate amount of money weekly or bi weekly. $40 a week transfered over from ur chequings. $40x52 weeks =2080.

NEVER do cash advance from ur credit card.

Let friends/family etc know that you would prefer to recieve money instead of a gift. Be polite about and insist that you are bent on killing your debts.

visit your bank and see what can be down with ur accounts in regards to what ur getting charged for transactions, fees etc. I was getting charged 30 a month for my transactions. I pay 12 a month for unlimited transactions.

If its sitting in ur basement or shelf. You dont use it, doesnt have sentimental value takes up space and ur only keeping it for the hell of it sell it. My sister had a spray paint gun/mask that she got for her art class YEARS ago. She sold it a few weeks ago for 100 bucks. she originally paid 240 for it.

Any cash u get from tax returns etc pay towards debt.

TO sum it all up. Be a total and utter cheap ass bitch for a year and ur debt will dissappear.

Heh, usually when I owe money they find me.

Your credit report should show who you owe. Call up their customer service line (or use the Get a Human database) and explain your situation. Most places (especially health-related) will let you set up a payment plan, whatever you can afford each month; as long as they they know they'll get something each month, they're usually happy.
