Has anyone seen those alienware computers? THAY ARE AWSUM! they look frekn like somthing that would come straight from cybertron! For my birthday I am definately going to get one... if they do have video editing software.

Every one seems to be using these computers for video games. And I dont care about games, mostly cuz I hate playing games on a computer and I already have a PS3. But I do need a new computer. my computer is ass on fire! And when I make videos to put on Youtube windows movie maker freezes up, and I cant do anything. So, is Alienware a good computer for movie making and getting on the internet, or is it just a small videogame system?

A gaming computer is, by nature, fast and powerful. Better video card, more RAM, better processor. There's very little it can't handle. And if it can't handle Windows Movie Maker, then something has gone horribly horribly wrong. The problem, though, is the price. Few of Alienware's products are under $1000. But if you can afford it, then I see no reason not to.

On the other hand, it's typically better to build a computer yourself. (Typically because you can get more powerful parts individually then pre-built) But if you don't know how to build a computer (it isn't easy) then yeah, go for the pre-built.

Shadow speaks truth. A gaming computer is designed to be faster and more powerful than the average PC. However all that power comes at a steep price. The computer I have now is a refurbished one, payed $600 for it, it runs just about everything I need to just fine, including video editing software. If you're going to purchase an alienware, more power to you, but be sure it's the one you want, $1000 will buy you a lot of power but it will put a steep dent in your pocket.
As for video editing software, windows movie maker should run without any problems. However in my line of work you'd be laughed out of the building for using windows movie maker, I would suggest familiarizing yourself with something like Adobe Premiere, it's pricey, but it's worth it if you can figure out how to use it. If the program interests you, Adobe offers trial programs for all of their products that allow you to make use of their full functionality for 30 days.

Yeah, I want to move as far away from movie maker as possible, it doesnt even have all of the FX that I want for my vids, I may have to try that one. And I thought that regular laptops cost around $1000 anyway. Cuz my dad got a laptop a few years ago for $1000, but he took it back and got a $750 one
