Halo:

Here's my step by step guide to ruining a proefessor's career:

1. read their books if any.

2. Point out any and all flaws in their work.

3. Once all the flaws of their work are known, show him the flaws and threaten to plaster them all over the net.

4. Plaster them all over the net even if he does give you a good grade.

5. Go to ratemyprofessor.com and give him a scathing review

6. Sit back and watch the chaos you've created unfold.

7. Be sure to enjoy a snack while watching said chaos.

8. When he asks you why? Tell him to piss off.

9. If this doesn't work, you can always say he touched you wrong.

Also, writing is all subjective so what should he care.

Feel free to send me a copy of the paper and I'll see if I can help you any. I'm good with editing.

#5 I just did like 5 seconds before looking over here. I've also thought about #8 and REALLY thought about #9.

P.S. You and N_V both made me laugh. I needed that.

I'm glad we could bring a smile to your face. :D

I had a CMN and an ENG Professor last semester who I thought was out to get me so I know how you feel. I had to drop a BIO course this semester because my Professor only cared about the sound of his voice instead of actually teaching me. I swear, the only ones who did well in that course had a photographic memory which I lack. 2/3 of the class dropped and I'm not making that up.

start a scandal. make some comprimising pics, get them fired. ruin their career, their family life, and their credibillity in one fell swoop

Whoa people. Let's just calm down a bit.

First: a hundred hours? My dissertation was nine months, total pages 462, not counting that I rewrote chapter four six times. I have a 20 minute speech about the ethics of interogation that I'm doing tomorrow for *free* as a service to my college and I've put in way more than 100 hours. Just saying that if you advance in your career field, 100 hours per project is going to be pretty common, so get used to it.

Second, yeah, we've all been there. You think I liked having to rewrite chapter 4 all those times because my director didn't think I had a big enough bibliography on courtly love, even though the chapter had NOTHING to do with courtly love? Sure, I was pissed. Sure I seethed. I wished random fragments of Skylab would land on his head. Or that he'd contract Ebola. Or gout. Or develop an anaphylactic allergy to those stupid ties he wore.

But I didn't think that the answer was to ruin the man's life. Come on. That's paranoiac. First of all--all this stuff people are suggesting will lower YOU down to some ethical level I sincerely HOPE you do not want to be in. Lying? Malice? Manipulation? Opening yourself up to a good libel lawsuit? Keep an eye on your own character! If you're mad, be mad, but be hot mad. Don't do something cold blooded that you'll regret. And you will regret it.

Second, professors (speaking as one) are NOT out to get students. It's absolutely insane to think so. I mean, let's see, I've paid my way through college, busted my hump so I could get into a good grad school, put myself through years of needless suffering to get a PhD, the humiliating ritual of MLA job interviews, get a tenure track job and build a life around that, and I'm going to throw it all away because of you? Unless you are some sort of SUPERbastard like on a cosmic scale, I just don't see that happening. Sure, I have students who misbehave and that I don't particularly enjoy having in the classroom, but I don't hate them. They're immature and lack self-discipline and study skills. Getting angry about it goes against common sense. It doesn't help them any, and it doesn't help me to make myself sick over it, much less to throw out all those years of hard work. Puh-leeze.

Get some distance. Maybe he doesn't like your project. You're somehow reading it as he doesn't like you, and thus that the only possible response is not to like *him*. And then, somehow, to ruining his entire *life* over a paper that in ten years you're probably not going to even remember writing? Come on. I know you're stressed and not thinking clearly, but don't be led into immature and petty vengeance.

Rate my professor is a joke. The number one comm coll professor from that site teaches at my school. You want to know what makes him so 'great'? He gives everyone As. He brings them candy. They never do ANY work--they don't have a textbook. They have to listen as he complains about everyone else in the department being mean to him (like, expecting to see his syllabus). He lets them go 40 minutes early. THAT is a great professor according to RMP. And then they have someone else like me for a follow on course, and when they don't know what a thesis statement is (which he should have taught them) they get mad at me, go on RMP and write about what a mean bitch I am. Awesome. Totally a site you want to associate with. Please to note the sarcasm.

If all else fails, remember that what goes around comes around: You think it's okay to lie and spread rumors and try to take someone down because you didn't like their feedback on a project? Don't you DARE be surprised when someone does it to you.

HK, trying to be ethical. What a concept.

PS. The reason I'm so insistent and long-winded about this is because it happened to me. I had a student make up some story that I was sleeping with another student. And I was racist. Why not, right? End result is that the 'other student' got his life dragged through the mud (he was a leader in one of our campus Christian groups, and he lost his leadership position because of it, though he eventually got it back), and the student who made this stuff up got in a huge amount of trouble. For the tape he had spliced together, that allegedly showed my racism, he got expelled, permanently. For the libel against that other student, the one I allegedly slept with, he had to write a public letter of apology and was sued and had to pay a settlement of a couple of thousand dollars. And guess what? I was innocent and I'm still here. Lasting harm to me? None. Lasting harm to student who did it: huge. Harm to peripheral people, pretty big. Is it worth it?

Why not do what A Psycho special?

Break his arms and legs and put him in the trunk of your car (or tank in your case halo :P ) and take him out to a field and pin his broken limbs down with rocks/cinderblocks. Then tear off all his clothes thus exposing him to the elements and cut a 2 inch deep gash in his torso and rub a mixture of urine and dirt in the wound. Grab a coke and watch to see how long it takes for septic shock to set in.

Haha, I was wondering when the happy violent way would come in.

And hellkitty, you missed the point entirely. I am basically venting, and want a fun and nonsensical answer that'll make me laugh, because laughter reduces stress. And FYI, I've basically had 3 months to put this together. If I had the luxury of 9, I wouldn't be in this boat. In reality, I would never go out to harm a teacher/professor, because after Thursday I'll never see him again. I love talking in hypotheticals, because they're fun. So chill out and stop taking the internet so seriously.

I was thinking more along the lines of a general rule rather than outright fact.

Which is better to carve out a person's heart with, a spoon or a spork?

A spork. You get the nice scooping sensation that you do with a spoon, but you also have pointy parts in case you decide you'd rather stabby stab.

HK, I think we'll have to agree to disagree with RMP. I used it to help me find some professors this semester and I'm quite happy with the feedback I got. None of my professors are lazy like the idiot you described. The ones I got have been very helpful and very kind with the exception of my BIO Professor, but I did like the lab teacher.

And yes, I believe there are teachers who are out to get students at times. I've noticed that when a student is particularly gifted in the area a professor teaches, some professors view them as a threat for some reason.

And yeah, Halo was looking laughs. We might be sadists, but do you really think we'd hit that low? Although the idea of signing that professor up for porn is something that I know one of my friends would do.
