I appreciate the little extra mile Uncle Hasby went to make this possible. Neat little homage to the OG toys' gimmick of combination.
But, it's really just kinda there. It's cool but kinda not that cool.
One thing that is real cool, is all the added articulation to Blackwing's wings. You can finagle them into all kinds of positions.

I still like that mode, even if it is just one connection holding them together from what I've read. They are on my want list as well but I actually want blackwing more, he owns that colour scheme.

How so? Been a while since I've fiddled with Air Raid. I know his wings could fold completely up or down and flap front to back, is there added movement like Dreadwind?

They are on these big ball joints which gives you some options for how and where they hang on his back.

The connection to form Wingcross isn't that bad. It's a big 5mil peg, and it holds pretty well. I put him on that flight stand and he held together. ;)^

Well, I think you would need a 5 ml post long enough to attach any other jet by the combiner foot port to Blackwing'd foot port. I'll have to think if I have anything that could work. I feel like one of my little Diaclone reboot guys came with some coupler rods in 3 and 5 ml sizes. I will hunt. I'm curious to see this done.
