Collateral Damage and the Cover Up
First off, This movie rocked! Yeah, it was dumbed down a bit, but its policy.
Ok. How many people died when Prime and Megs went flying through that building? What about at Hoover Dam when the Cons arrived? How about the freeway or the streets of that major city?
That's a LOT of toe-tags and body-bags. I'm sure at some point the press would have arrived, or at least some footage from the people on the street would make the news.
How would you cover up this attack from giant alien robots when there are so many bodies and eyewitnesses?
Also, I doubt the military would just tell the truth (snicker, Sam's Mom...) about the Autobots and the 'dead' Decepticons.

Yeah, this really bothered me. There's no possible way the Government could cover something like that up in this digital age. If they wanted to dispose of the Decepticons' bodies so that nobody could use their technology to build advanced weapons that's one thing, but to try and pull a cover up was a rather silly angle for the story to go.

I'm not really sure if that was the angle they took...
It was either that, or the Witwickeys weren't very sharp...
In either case, the government knows, meaning the people know anyway.

The movie didn't say which way they went, so, no cannon only theory.
If I was the PR for this atrocity, my story would go like this:
No connection to the attack in Qattar will be made.
Families of the victims will be given considerable federal aide if they agree not to speak of the event.
Official Story:
"Two prototype military vehicles were stolen from Nelles AFB. They were stolen by the heads of the design teams when the project was canceled due to budget cutbacks. One traveled as far as the Hoover Dam. The conflict was brought to an end in (cities name) by a joint military strike force using the last prototype."
"Facts"
There were never more than three mechs at any one scene.
The conflict ended when the last two mechs disabled each other in hand to hand combat.
No mechs were disabled on the freeway, just damaged.
The Hoover Dam will be re-opening when its integrity is confirmed to allow visitors.
Something like that. SS would cover the fliers, while Devastator could cover the ground conflicts. A single hero mech could cover all the Bots.
Spin it, baby! Yeah!
Press Secretary, here I come!

Yeah, I didn't buy that the Transformers could be covered up. Beyond the damages and deaths, remember the worldwide communications blackout?

They may not have explicitly stated, "This is a cover up" but I think it was pretty obvious that's what they meant. The Secretary of Defense said, "all evidence will be destroyed". You don't use a word like "evidence" unless you're trying to hide something. Also, the entire point of showing the Witwicky's at the end was to show how everyone was denying what happened. I'm sure they know about BB and the other Autobots, it was meant to be humorous how they were like, "This is America, our Government would tell us" because the Gov. keeps stuff from us all the time! It was all tongue-in-cheek.

A cover-up would no longer be possible in the movie than it was in G1.

Perhaps, the media and general public wising up will be part of the next film. Wait and see.

I am so glad I didn't pay to see this movie.
That said, the ending was freaking preposterous.
Yeah, we'll take a ton of witnesses who've had their lives changed and watched loved ones killed, but we're going to dump HIGH-TECHNOLOGY from ROBOTIC ALIENS into the ocean to cover it all up.
LOL, what? No attempts at reverse engineering the tech?
Holy crap. LOL.
It's like a kid with a box of crayons wrote the freaking script!
Downloaded, thankfully. No money spent supporting it.

Dude, add something constructive or go keep it to yourself.
Oh, and congrats on stealing a movie that is 48 hours old, you want a bozo button? Or how about some hemorrhoid cream?

As KoH4711 said, there was a global communications blackout. You just have to blame it on terrorists. The first attack was in the middle east, so it would be plausible

...WTF?! How is it online that quick already? O_o
No, I'm not trying to talk about piracy and break rules, it's just a question that needs answered, because that's friggin' amazing, not to mention just plain wrong.

Obviously, somebody secretly filmed it and put it online. It's not rocket science...

Too bad you didn't watch it or you would know...
Megatron was discovered and kept by Sector 7 for 80 some years now and that they reversed engineered him to give us microchips, lasers, and a whole bunch of other tech.

Well, they already did reverse engineer the tech from Megatron.
And look at what that got them.
Some people just need stuff spelled out for them when it comes to movies. But Oh well

Yes, yes, yes, they did reverse engineering on Megatron all those years...
BUT, now he had an all-powerful, life-giving piece of yet unseen (in it's current state) alien technology crammed into his blown-out chest.
And there'd be no curiosity over analyzing the differences between the dead units versus Megatron's inner configurations?
Or curiosity over differences that may've occured in a wide awake and or dead Megatron versus a frozen one?
You guys are not thinking here.
Precious.
Hey, you kids wanna' buy a Camaro from me?
I don't have the title to it, but it's ok, right?

Whatever happened to a little thing called "suspension of disbelief".

I KNOW THAT! QUIT BEING A FRIGGIN' DICK!
It was more of a thinking out loud sort of thing.
You know what else isn't rocket science? Not hitting the post button when you know diarrhea is about to pour out of your mouth.
