Vitamin D supplementation has proven to be very effective; I actually recommend it to ALL my patients because of its effectiveness in multiple uses (reduction in depression and anxiety; improved immune response; reduction of certain types of cancers). If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. A lot of providers are pushing people to get the vaccination. I don't like that attitude...I see my job as providing the science and information and letting the patients make their own decision. Too many people are relying on mediocre info (such as the media taking one line from a research study and using that as their headline while ignoring the rest of the discussion and conclusions). And always remember...you have access to the National Library of Medicine if you want completely unbiased information. It's free and open to the public.

Yes, more open discussion and uncontrolled information is definitely needed. Unfortunately a lot of people get manipulated into decisions by others, be it family or social media. Personally, I just did my best to take in even more useful materials to help my body defend me. This includes multiple vitamins and just a generally healthier lifestyle. Is it enough for me? I'd like to think so. Is it for everyone else? Most likely not.

It's very important to listen to those?who actually know what they are talking about instead of just talking heads.

I'm OK. I suspect that I had the virus in January 2020 but I was back to work in four days and the dry cough disappeared in two weeks. In March, I started furlough. Overall, I had about a year of furlough in two main stretches. After that, I had 6 weeks of annual leave to use within 6 months. During furlough, I had my vaccinations. I wear a mask at work but still caught a cold a few months ago. My health is generally fine, though my fitness reduced with too much relaxation at home!

Meanwhile, in my government, there is a pantomime going on. The Prime Minister and his colleagues have been breaking their own Covid rules shamelessly. There have already been some resignations and there will probably be more later. Some people may be sacked.

Funny you mentioned supplements, as the misses takes those out of necessity, but it's not quite perfect. In her case, her body has issues processing certain forms of Vitamins D and B12, in the latter case we had to switch to the natural Methyl form instead of the synthetic cyanocobalamin (the "cyano" part has us scared too, cyanide you know?).

The only way you get an A in pharmacology and advanced pharm is if you can spell and say them correctly. I got the A.

Except I just realized I spelled acetasalacylic acid wrong the first time. Derp.

Had two of my coworkers die from covid complications in the last several months, really makes things more real. :( Wasn't close to either of them, heck I honestly kinda disliked one of them. But still, having people you know die...

Scary Death Virus finally got me. Was down for four days of up and down symptoms. Of course, it took close exposure to 107 confirmed positives to finally get me. Thats how many I diagnosed in a 5 week period.

Note from healthcare providers: if you have tested positive, please do NOT make an appointment with your provider and ask "why am I feeling sick?" And expect them to make it magically go away. We are looking at you wondering just how you managed to be the fastest sperm and thinking your mom should have swallowed.

Yeah, it's burning out a lot of providers. The burnout though is being aggravated by the shutdowns. The infinite wisdom of the government in shutting down screenings and clinics is bearing fruit here. Two big issues specific to health care providers...first, the pandemic has sped up retirements of providers and nurses. Second, the shutdowns extended to clinical rotations and residencies for up-and-coming providers, delaying graduation of some 200,000 health care professionals. This may be the single stupidest decision ever made. WHy? Because those providers in school help to take the load off of currrent professionals. They would have made a huge difference in the workload. But they shut them down. Honestly, I'd like to find the people who made that decision and punch them in the gonads with spiked knuckles.

As an FYI, we are starting to see the consequences of the shutdowns now as well. Two recent studies were released regarding the consequences of the shutdowns. First, children born during the pandemic are experiencing developmental and social delays, especially in the 6-12 month old age group, related to the inability to interact with other children and lack of exposure to facial expressions due to masks. Second, mortality for Alzheimer's Disease patients increased by as much as 40% because of "the alteration in health care delivery and inability to gain access to providers, directly related to shutdowns." In the US, that's approximately 30-40,000 additional deaths per year in the US for a single directly cause related to the shutdowns. That's 8-10% of the total of number of deaths caused by Covid to date. If the numbers are similar for other causes of death (COPD, CHF, suicides/trauma, cancers, etc), the total number of deaths related to the shutdowns could be three to five times the total number of deaths from Covid itself...approximately 3-5 million preventable deaths in total over a two year period. Further research is pending, but it is not promising. Cancer in particular is seeing a massive increase in preventable mortality due to discontinuation of normal screenings, inability to access providers, and people simply avoiding going to providers out of fear.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.
