Did War for Cybertron really retcon G1's backstory?

I would think it pretty much has to be a different continuity.
I mean, really, it's not like G1 was all that consistent anyway. Are we talking G1 comics? Which G1 comics? G1 cartoon? Modern comics using G1 characters?
I wouldn't worry too much about it, anyway. In another five years anything that happens in the video game will be retconned by yet another relaunch.
