Personally, I think the best thing to do in regards to Transformers is to not think about these things. It could drive you nuts trying to find the answers.

Hey, I’ll admit it, I was a jerk, and you deserved an apology.

It's a tricky one, and no mistake. There's certainly evidence of child-like TFs (like Wheelie), and the Lithonians certainly argue a good case for the existence of cybernetic sproglings.

But by the same token, we've never encountered any TFs who at one point have been childlike and later matured into fully-grown adults. The only times we've ever seen growth in TFs is in spurts, through reformatting or other upgrades (see, for example Optimus or Rodimus Prime's Matrix-borne growth, Bumblebee/Goldbug, who's been through various reformats, or Ruckus, who's been built bigger over time). So we can't really know for sure that TFs can grow as we do, either. Maybe they do just go through periodic reformats till they reach full maturity.
