Explosive Entry

Postby Bonecrusher27 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 10:06 pm

Is it just me, or did anyone else get the sense that when the autobot protoforms arrived they didn't seem too concerned about collateral damange? In fact when I saw the scene at the stadium I immediately thought it was the arrival of the Decepticons!

Likewise when Prime latched onto Megatron in jet mode and Megatron crashed right through that building, it made me feel really uncomfortable. I half expected to see people spilling out on the other side like that 911 video.

collateral damage was inevitable, all they could really do is minimize the damage when they could

Well, given that this is a live action movie, it would be highly unrealistic if there wasn't some semblance of collateral damage. I mean... they're giant alien robots of different, warring factions. It would have been even more out of place if no one had gotten hurt in the sidelines.

Those protoforms seemed to make it through the atmosphere ok, but they weren't exactly built for flight, either. There was some collateral property damage, but it didn't seem that many people got hurt until the final battle with the decepticons.

They could have led the Decepticons out into an open field or the desert.

Assuming the decepticons would follow. Megatron could just say to Prime "Fine, take the cube to the desert. I'll just sit here and level buildings full of people with my bare hands until you bring it back."

I kind of got the feeling that they had a quick and sloppy landing since they new time was short and the Allspark had to be found as soon as possible.

And it would be SOOO like Megatron to do just that!
Life can be pretty sweet when your alt-mode is a B-2 Stealth Bomber.

Good advice. I was actually more bothered with the landing sequence than the city fight, which of course had to have collateral damage. (I watched it last night and also shuddered at the scene where Prime has saved sam from falling and to get to the ground does his kungfu thing between two buildings to bleed off energy)

But the entry scene... just wondered if they bothered to pick a trajectory after checking where they'd land. But yeah, it's not important.

At least the baseball stadium was empty!

Is not having an alt mode scanned the Transformer equivalent of running around naked?

Yeah, but it was the military guys who decided to take it into the city rather than having air support come to where they are. Bumblebee just went along with it and then the rest of the caravan followed. The way I look at it, by the time that thought was even brought up they were already there?

They had to have known that the Decepticons would show up- Sector 7 built that dam to block the energy from being detected.

I'm going to stop this strain and just think about Megatron threatening to level cities if Prime doesn't do what he wants. That would have been the FUN alternative reasoning.

Didn't they take it into the city because it was going to supposedly be easier to hide?

You know, that's cleared a major problem of the film for me. :)

Megatron, at that moment, is in a hurry to get the cube. He doesn't care about the buildings and people around him.

In the final moments, Megatron is in the crosshair receiving direct missile hits from all around. And with Optimus in the way. But he doesn't even bother to think about it. He is fixated on Sam holding the cube. He has no time for anything else.

He certainly won't have the mindset to consider putting the whole city under ransom.

Wherever the cube goes, he will just follow.
