Fast Action Battler Megatron Repaint

Postby timshinn73 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 2:10 pm

Here's a Fast Action Battler Fusion Blast Megatron I repainted.

Keep in mind, this guy's only 6 inches tall in bot mode comapred to the 12 inch Leader Class Megatron. Although the alt mode is still pretty ugly, the bot mode scult is pretty nice.

Thanks for taking a look and for any comments you might want to share.

WOW, now you oredy sold the leader class to me, I'll be getting this to!
They look so much better in metal.
But it'll be a pain repainting them.
How's it going with Springer?

This Megatron repaint is now available on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260141597779&rd=1&rd=1

No big progress on Springer at the moment, Dead Metal. Lots of irons in the fire. But I'll get to him. Thanks!

May i ask something? How do you get over the problem of paint buildup in the joints for these figures as they have lots of moving parts, especially the leader class megs with the automorph technology, how do you get around the problem of the paint making these small joints stiff? Also, could you tell me how you get all that black paint in the tiny nooks and crannys to make the detail stand out more? I think its called blackwashing isnt it? How does one do that?

Awesome work btw, im thinking of buying a leader megs and re-painting him as well as it seems they make ALOT of money on ebay judging from some auctions of repaints i have seen posted here.

Really good work! I love it, and I'm not even that big a fan of Movie Megs!
I'd been toying with the idea of putting my red Movie Ironhide repaint up on ebay. I just made up my mind.

Here's a perfect tutorial with pics. Although this tutorial does not use ink, it's the same basic idea.

http://cgi.ebay.com/FLORY-MODELS-WEATHERING-PANEL-LINE-SLUDGE-WASH_W0QQitemZ120141023453QQihZ002QQcategoryZ2587QQcmdZViewItem

I suggest getting an old scrap toy or model and trying it. Nothing beats practical application. We learn by doing. Trial and error.

I wonder if my Alt silverstreak turned into G1 Bluestreak would make any money...

Simple but brilliant. The original mould looks like... well... plastic. Yours looks so much more lifelike, and all it basically takes is a coat of silver and a blackwash.

The tutorial's good, but blimey, 12 bucks (10 plus shipping) for a pot? I think not - I'll stick with my inks, thankyou very much...

Good luck with the sale!

Now what can I find to paint up for profit..? :-?

I'd suggest doing kitbashes for your own enjoymentfirst, profit second. Keeping things fun is important to me. If I decide to sell a few figures from time to time to basically pay for my hobby, that's cool too.

Trying to sell custom toys ain't all roses, too. I've actually still not been paid for the Leader Class Megatron repaint or the custom Allspark Cube I had on ebay last week. I hope I didn't get a couple deadbeats. Fingers crossed. I guess if they don't pay, you'll see them again soon.

Inks for me too. Just thought the pics in the link would be helpful with folks having trouble grasping the idea of inkwashing.

You can use paints too.

With acrylics anyway, just mix the paint with water. About a 50/50 mix, but you need to experiment for the exact ratio.

Paint it on, let it dry a few minutes. Maybe 5, not the hour like the stuff on ebay, and wipe off the excess.

Make sure you don't draw the paint back out of the cracks again though! If you're doing this, you have too much water in the mix.

Practice a few times on an extra Classics Screamer (you know you have a couple extra that you *still* need to repaint into other seekers).
