Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

That was the point of it - Char/Quattro actually comments on the fact it's just a slightly upgraded version of the RX-78-2. If the suit was considerably better, there would have been no need for the Zeta.

Then why did they bother developing it at all, much less three?

It's an interesting point - due to the development time Anaheim wasted on the far superior 'GP' series (of which all records and development were destroyed), they ended having to get some production-grade suits together quickly for the Titans, hence the RX-178 was simply an upgraded version of the RX-78-2. If I recall correctly, the RX-178 was the first suit Anaheim actually had go into production (the GP series were all prototypes) as they didn't become a major player until after the one year war had ended.

It's worth remembering that RX-178 is still more powerful than the majority of MS in the series, it just struggled against the mobile armours that started cropping up (hence the creation of the Zeta).

Duke of Luns wrote:And they kept it around through ZZ Gundam(which I haven't seen). If it was obselete, why bother repairing it?

I don't want to unnecessarily spoil anything, but if you watch the series, it makes sense that it was kept.

I'm finished Episode 43 in ZZ Gundam just a moment ago, and by this point, Gundam MKII is still very under-used.

They normally only send out Zeta, Double Zeta, and Kyaku Shiki. They normally only use Gundam MKII when they need some extra muscle. Mostly because they have a shortage of pilots.

So now that you say this, Shin Getter Robo, now I have to wonder what they're going to do with the MKII now. :-?

That's not really what I was getting at. It's more the reason they don;t just dump the RX-178 right at the beginning.

The Mk.II is actually one of my favorite suits. It has a very solid, rough and tumble look. To be honest, most of the great suits were in Sentinels though, and never made it to TV anyhow.

I didn't like many of the Sentinel designs at all, I felt they were a bit overdone and could have used a little more refinement.

I love the Deep Striker though, and absolute beast of an MS.

I don't really think of the FAZZ as a Sentinel design as it's just a boringly coloured ZZ in armour. Love the massive cannon though.

Are we still talking about Sentinel? The only G04 & G05 I know of are from the 'Encounters in Space' PS2 game.

NO they're not sentinel. They were in a manga, but I don't remember which one. They're also in the game.

Ah yes, MS-V. There are just so many of those things that I don't know how anyone keeps up. Seriously, there's like 30 Zaku and GM variations. How does anyone keep up with all the variations that exist, unless you either have the model, manga, or the video-game it's featured in?

One thing I find interesting is that at least in Japan they had a hobby magazine that showcased custom Gundam's, and here's a list of what's on mahq:

Some really interesting designs.

That's what confused me - I didn't realise we'd swapped from talking about Sentinel to MS in general.

I do like the -5 very much, I'm a sucker for anything with a massive gatling gun. I like the colour scheme too - it's not often you find a bright-orange and grey MS.

The -4 is not so much of a winner for me. I don't like the colour scheme and the design wasn't anything special.

What exactly is the L-Mess? Can I assume it's from Turn-A Gundam? I've never seen Turn-A(mostly cause it hasn't come out in English), but I've seen pics of suits from the series, and most of them are quite odd looking.

My fav are
Wing Gundam Zero TV version for its neat balance of weaponary
and speed and also its transformation to Brid Mode.

Gundam DX for its super weapon and also for not being overpowered.

Zeta Gundam for its compelx transformation and wide verity of weapons.

Gundam NT 1 Alex for its simple design and also its female pilot (test pilot to most of you)

ZZ Gundam for its heavy weaponery and its combining parts.

Strike Gundam and Aegis for my sesne taste and most of Wing and X gundams.

Least Favorite

Strike Freedom
Why is a MS with several big guns, heavy and yet small and fast as jet fighter . That is not a real robot type Macha.

and almost everything made by Lacus Clyne

Sounds like a bad translation of Elmeth. But Elmeth was a Mobile Armor.
