Fender's uphill battle with "THE MAN"

Some people in the RDD know this, as well as the entire staff here, so I'd like to make this known to everyone.

As some of people remember, last year I was involved in a work related accident. Due to the accident, I fractured my Talus, the ankle bone.

The bone fractured in two spots, splitting it in half with one fracture and causing a chunk to break off on the top/front part towards the toes with the other.

Through 2007, I have gone through therapy and have followed doctor orders to just wait for the fractures to heal naturally. The fracture that split the bone in half has healed, but the other has not.

So last week, my doctor recommended surgery to fix this. She also felt that she was inadequately experienced in performing the type of surgery my ankle required, so she referred me to Meriter Hospital.

Up to this point, Broadspire, the insurance company for my former employer, Fedex Ground, has paid for everything. I have never received a bill for anything.

Now today happens. I received a call from Meriter Hospital saying that my Workmans Compensation claim for the surgery has not been approved. So they are trying to make me pay for a surgery that will likely be many 10's of thousands of dollars.

I've contacted the insurance company and my claim adjuster was not at her officer (imagine that), so I had to leave a voicemail. I've also contacted an attorney.

More stress in my life I don't need. I was also forced to resign last week from a security job I had for 3 months after leaving Fedex. Plus I'm out of financial aid for college. So all the while I'm trying to get a surgery done, fight an insurance company, and find a job, I'm also looking for a way to finance my last year of college with absolutely no help from anyone (my whole family is poor).

So that's where I am at in my life. Surgery is this Thursday. Rehab will be 3-5 months. So with the surgery done, I won't be able to walk on my 1 foot for at least 3 months. Which in turn, limits my options for jobs, which limit my options for funding school.

All in all, my life really F#cking sucks right now. :-x

Honestly, I'd recommend getting a telecommunications job.

You'll be one of those annoying people that calls about magazines while people eat dinner, but it pays decent and you can basically just sit around and heal.

Other than that man, try not to get too down. It always gets darkest before dawn.

Oh man that just sucks, reading stuff like that just lets me apreciate were I live and what I get from my country.

Man, bad enogh you break your anle multiple times you have to pay that kind of money by yourself + find a way to finance school, with no help what so ever?
WTF?!

That can't be true there must be some kind of help ore trust in the US that helps you, there must.

Man I wish you the best of luck at geting better and finding a job and getting true school so you'll be able to live a better life then now, I really do.

Yea try what CP said, people will hate you, it will give you a lot of pressure but it pays good.

Before you completely freak out, wait to hear back from your claims adjuster. If the surgery is in direct result of your injury from fedex then it should be covered. Just continue to follow dr's orders...if they say stay off it, then stay off of it. Claims is not above sending people to spy on you.

Also, if they do infact deny it, i believe you have grounds for legal action...to the tune of enough money to pay for your surgery and suffering. The simple fact is workmans comp company's are trained to deny these big ticket items. You would be surprised how many people just leave it alone and pay the bill.

I could be incorrect in this, it has been about 7 years since i have worked for a company dealing with workman's comp...and this WAS NOT a portion of my responsibilities(ok ok, i was basically a grunt)

Anyway, best of wishes in settling this and your further recovery.

It's a good thing that you contacted a lawyer. It's best to have a backup of some sort.

And following CP's lead, try to see if Verizon has a call center in your area. It's $12.00+ per hour.

Well, there is no Verizon call center, but there is a TDS Metrocom call center.

Problem with that is that is the place I was stationed as a Security Guard. The reason I was forced to resign was because managers complained to my boss because I talked to much to the workers there, many of which are friends of mine.

I know workmans comp is fighting my carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve issue. Of course after the second opinion the second doctor said that it was work related..
When my work gets that report they are going to flip.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

That blows, Fender. I hope it works out though. These guys are right though, Workman's Comp does try to get out of paying big money at any turn, but usually if you push the issue they'll pay out. My exgirlfriend's dad lost his leg in a motorcycle accident while he was on the clock, and his workman's comp tried to get out of paying for it after the first few months, but they fought it and now all his wheechairs, prosthetic legs, etc etc etc are fully covered for the rest of his life. In short, dont let them screw you, man, you're entitled to every penny.

Other than that, just know that we're all pulling for you.

You may want to try an IT help desk position. I was at one with a bank for almost a year and I rarely left my desk. A lot of the level 1 positions are 100% phone support.
