For thoughs colectors with kids in their lives
Anyone around here ever consider passing down your own TF colections to your kids or maybe even somebody elces kids. (Like your nephews and nieces) And if so what age would you say they'd be old enough to take your vastly large colections.

One day, when I have a son I will leave my collection to him but not until I die

I'm not a parent yet, but when I get around to having an anklebiter or two, sure, I'd pass down my collection to them. As for when I would hand it down... I don't know. I guess they'd have to show that they're responsible enough to take care of a Transformers collection or something. That's even if they're interested in TF... but if I have anything to say about it they will be.

Main reason I posted this topic is because of my Nephew. He's about 6 months old right now but I've been thinking about giving him my TF colection when he get's older.
Don't think I wanna give up my colection unless he can show me he can take care of them though, like his room would need to be kept cleaner than I ever kept my own room as a kid.
I might give him some of the cheaper ones like Delux class and under but the bigger ones he'll have to wait for.

I cant ever see me giving up my collection whilst alive, but that isnt to say I wont buy them their own tfs to play with (and I mean play with, when I was a kid, that's what I did with my toys, play with them).
I find it very likly Im more likly to be a nunkle long before I ever get kids of my own (if I do), and I may buy some tfs to be played with by any future nephews n neices, as a bribe to get them to leave the main collection alone.

Passing your collection onto someone else is like passing the matrix- the person must prove themself worthy.

My wife and I have no children yet, but this past weekend we had the whole family over for my mom's birthday.
As a treat, I took my three nephews (7, 4, and 2 respectively) into my TF collection room. They were in awe! The 7 year old loved it, and so did the 4 year old. They wanted to spend the whole afternoon up there staring, because they knew they could not play with the vintage items (NOTE: My wife and I buy them plenty of TFs of their own!!! New ones of course, but still...)
They really wanted the expensive G1 Japanese toys (Great taste, must run in the family).
Would I give them to my nephews??? Not unless I was on my death bed, my wife did not need to sell them for money, and I did not have any children of my own.
Although some would be buried with me, in the coffin (or cremated whichever I decide to do).

I wouldn't say pass on as much as share. My 2 year old and I play with some of my collection everyday. He likes the micromasters/minicons since they are his size. We also have a 6 month old and I am sure that he will like them as well. We plan on buying the newer stuff and keeping it all together.

I buy two of each. One for display. One for playing. Yes, I'll pass on loose ones.
Except for maybe my rarer G1's.

i'm the same-i "share" mine with my son. Its the best way to enjoy your collection.
Although ill admit some of the collection is of limits, but adam is totally aware of this-he always asks when i get a new tf "is it delicate?" if i asnwer yes, he sighs and leaves it alone-but if i say no (and i ussually do) he is very happy, grabs my new toy and runs off!

I intend to keep my collection for a good long time. I might pass it on to my son if he continues to be interested in TF's and becomes a collector.
Although my son is 4 so time will tell if he becomes a full fledge collector. But I get him current figures now anyways so that he doesn't mess with mine.

My answer is pretty much the same answer everyone else has given.
If my son shows an intrest in preserving my collection, it's all his, as long as he lets me mess around with them sometimes
If he gets to be college age and still has no intrest, I may just sell everything off....Then again, I didn't get back into TFs until I was about to graduate College....Hmm

I don't have kids of my own. However my brother's spelling is worse than mine. Was talking to him on team speak and he kept typing in "can you hire me?" insted of "can you hear me?" And belive it or not I've seen people with worse spelling than him too.Ddave wrote:Saber Prime wrote:Anyone around here ever consider passing down your own TF colections to your kids or maybe even somebody elces kids. well, being 17 I don't have kids (nor should I XD)
but, kids here aren't the point, though i am working on getting my nephew into TFs, because i'm going to have my self frozen and buried in a tomb with them (hopefully with minions that will add to my collection even after i'm dead
