It was still the same genre, just a different perspective.

Then again, Zelda would still be in the same genre, just a different perspective, so I don't know how your example says anything.

And Resident Evil 4 is still in the same genre, just a different perspective, so I'm not sure what the problem is. If Metroid isn't in a completely different genre for turning perspecitve, then neither is RE4. I can understand if you mean they got rid of Umbrella and turned zombies into ganados, but if Metroid gets a pass for turning to a FPS and RE4 doesn't, that makes no sense.

RE4 is not even close to the same genre, it went from horror to action. From just trying to survive to being a one man army. From getting by with what you find to buying an arsenal in a store. The only thing that's the same is the enemies are infected in some way. Metroid Prime was still about exploring an alien world, getting power ups, and fighting Space Pirates.

Have you ever played a Zelda game? Making it a first person shooter would change the whole thing. They're sword and shield adventure games, not run around and shoot things games.

Okay, I can see your point now. I'd disagree that the horror element was taken totally away because I still found some of it creepy, but I see now where you're coming from a little more. I still think RE4 is a great improvement over RE3, but that's just a matter of opinion.

It's not like it was all bad. It was still a good game, and one of the failed attempts to make it ended up being Devil May Cry.

What Evil means is that it would be like turning Zelda into an action game like Halo or Half-Life. This kind of change was unnecessary and made it barely resemble the games that came before it. I'm not saying it was a bad thing, and it helped the series (To an extent, anyway), but it didn't really need to happen.
