Game recommendations (PC)

Admittedly i'm not much of a gamer, I don't have any consoles, I just have a very big computer.

I have however become quite addicted to War Hammer:Dawn of War. Though i've nearly completed all the campaigns for all the races.

And it's become obvious to me that i'm a fan of the RTS genre. Though I don't mind the odd FPS but they get a bit boring after a while.

I'm also not a fan of multiplayer, mostly because the times I actually play games are the times the computer is downloading something.

So, with all that said and done, does anyone have any recommendations for some decent games out there?

Just wondering, which games do you already know of/do you already have?

Company of heroes is a fun single player game, though a bit short. But I believe the upcoming expansion pack adds 2 new campaigns and will be a lot longer in comparison.

Not very many actually. I'm lucky to buy one or two a year (this is how much of a gamer I am)

In addition to Dawn of War the most "recent" game was Age of Empires 3. Always been a fan of the AoE series but this 3rd one just wasn't as fun, probably because you needed a REALLY good computer to play it (and my new one could just do that) and the fact that I love Dawn of War so freaking much.

You like RTS? Get Supreme Commander. Remember Total Annihilation? Well, SupCom is made by the minds behind TA, and holy crap, is it amazing.

There's a demo you can try, but it's a large download, over a gig.

TBH I do not recommend Supreme commander myself. The game really lacks immersion imho and the single player campaign is not really worth playing much. Not to mention you need a damn good computer.

RTS wise get StarCraft (as well as Brood War Expansion), WarCraft3 (and Frozen Throne Expansion) and Homeworld (either 1 or 2, thought I prefer 2 personally)

FPS's (computer specs allowing) pickup Halflife 2 (and Half Life while you're at it)

If you're into RPG's at all then get Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights (the first one is better), and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Reoublic (again first one is better)

there's my $.02

The Half-Life games, and most of Valve's Softwares products, can be bought right off of Steam, so you don't have to drive however far to whatever place near you sells games.

Bought right from home, the way the Three Gods (Steve, Steve, and Bill) intended.

And you have Vista, right? Halo 2 PC is supposed to be coming out, so if you haven't played it on Xbox, that's be something good to pick up.

Also, the three Jedi Knight games: Dark Forces: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight II, and Jedi Academy.

Then there's Doom 3. I don't care what anyone says, this was a seriously fun game, and I wish I could play it on my current PC. (Had to downgrade)

As for RTSs, Starcraft 2 is coming out soon, so if you don't have them, I seriously suggest SC1 and SC: Brood War. The Age of Empires games are always fun.

There's three Lord of the Rings games. Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 are both based on the Peter Jackson movies, and are from Electronic Arts. LotR: War of the Ring is from Liquid Entertainment, and is based primarily on the books.

If I remember right, there was a gmae (Which, according to Wikipedia, has an expansion) called Act of War. I only saw it on X-Play a couple years ago, but it looked INCREDIBLE. It had really well done live-action FMVs. That gets bonus points.

Then there's Star Wars: Empire at War, a must-have for any Star Wars geek.

There's the X-COM games, which most people will tell you are awesome. (I don't know, I haven't played them)

Yep. It contains all the C&C games ever made (except the new C&C 3). I have it and it's hours and hours and hours of RTS fun (especially Red Alert 2).

I'd also recommend Warcraft 3 + the expansion --> best single player ever.

Definately Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne expansion - great single player and multi

I just got Starcraft and I am not loving it - too many buildings required to do a few upgrades!

I really enjoyed Total Annihilation (that game is epic), WarCraft II, and Starcraft.

A really fun RTS is Evil Genius. You basically play as an Bond villain, build a secret lair on a deserted island, train henchmen, capture spies, make a doomsday device, take over the world, etc. You know, good stuff like that. Much how No One Lives Forever was a comical '60s spy game but an excellent FPS, Evil Genius is a comical '60s evil mastermind game and an excellent RTS.

Any of the Half-Life games, Doom 3, Quake 4, and if you can get them, any of the Starsiege games. Mechwarrior isn't too bad, either.

MechWarrior is amazing. At least until Microsoft took over.
MechWarrior 2 is still one of my favourite games of all time.

I vaguely remember playing Mechwarrior2 on .. I think it was a Pentium 350 machine.

Got and played Warcraft 3, probably should get around to getting the expansion pack as well.

Also got and played Doom 3, and yes, I did enjoy it, along with the original Half-Life.

Trick now is to actually save up the money. :?

You might like Star Rangers 2. It's a turn based game involving space exploration, trading, combat and the occasional odd job.

One of the cool features are the various odd jobs you can pick up. Anything from organizing an army of robots RTS style to letter delivery to pizza making to mule racing. And there are a slew of text based side quests that require some pretty intense problem solving.

It's also really cheap at $20.

Just a suggestion.

Mechwarrior 2 mercs was the first Mechwarrior game I ever played and I loved it to death. Then I skipped ahead and started playing mechwarrior 4 (and later on the black knight expansion) which again, I loved to death.
Then mechassault 1 & 2 on the xbox... these games shouldn't even be allowed to wash the mechanic feet of the mechwarrior series. though they are entertaining in their own right.

So yea, if you dont mind some old school retro gaming. Go for the mechwarrior series fo sho

Mech4 is good? I have it, I just didn't try it. I guess I was so disappointed by Mech3 not living up to my expectations that I just kicked it oldschool and forgot about the new ones.

Yeah, Mech 4 returned to the simulation style of play that made MW 2, Ghost Bear and Mercs so fun. Also, try MW4: Mercs. You have more control over what missions you accept.
