games you find overrated

The first two that come to my mind are Final Fantasy X and Gears of War.
FFX has its good points, but mostly it irritates the hell out of me. The graphics are excellent for the most part. The gameplay is pretty fun. But the story is just lame, the character models look like they were designed by a 3 year old. I don't see how anyone could see Seymour as threatening. He looks rediculous and sounds so feminine. The voice acting and dialogue in the game is TERRIBLE and you can't skip the ridiculously long cut scenes.
GoW just doesn't appeal to me I guess. I have tried playing it numerous times and I just don't get why everyone flocks to it. The graphics are gorgeous, but the gameplay is just meh.

And Kefka is Bruce Willis all of a sudden?
But anyway:
Resident Evil 4, PS2 version. I didn't like the controls, and it really wasn't scary. I was more scared by Doom 3, and after playing through that a billion times, Doom 3 really isn't all that scary either. (I still like Doom 3)

I have never played VI so I really have no idea what he was like. The designs I'm seeing on google look rather out there. So I guess I'll take your word on that one. I am far to obsessed with my dreamcast again to get into another Final Fantasy game

Kefka is considered one of the best Final Fantasy villains. He wears clown make-up a weird robes, and his voice in Dissidia is pretty high pitched. He also apparently plays with dolls.

Final Fantasy - 7 and up
They just never seemed that great, I loved the 16bit versions, but as soon as they moved to 3d, sure the graphics got prettier, but underneath it was the exact same J-rpg with the exact same ridiculous physics, and the exact same everything. Personally I think they should have just stopped the FF series after X, as soon as they made a sequel to a sequel(X2), it just got ridiculous to the fan-pandering.
Guitar Hero/Rock Band
Congratulations, instead of learning to play a real instrument, you get to play the couch potato version of DDR.
Soul Calibur
Honestly I don't see how this game has survived this long. I mean now they only seem able to hang on by the thread of another franchises coat-tails. The latest being Star Wars.

Definitely the Wind Waker, and I might catch some flack for this, but after playing Twilight Princess, I think the Zelda series needs some new life breathed into it. I don't know what exactly, but I think Nintendo needs to consider departing from the "go to this dungeon get this item, kill this boss and save the princess".
I did, however, appreciate that some of the dungeons were seamlessly woven into the story—like the ice palace. Unlike the Wind Waker, which followed the predictable pattern of dungeon, explore, dungeon, explore, etc. I liked Twilight, I just wish it would've been more challenging and longer. It would be cool if Hyrule was flippin' huge!

To be fair, Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time are roughly the same length, and are probably the longest in the series. They're also considered the two best in the franchise, while OoT is considered one of the best games ever made.

And that could be part of my Zelda problem—I missed out on OoT. Bought a PS1 instead of the N64. I've been meaning to get the master quest version for the Gamecube, but just haven't got around to it. I never got to experience that "WOW" effect of seeing Link in 3D on the N64, so maybe the series kind of died for me. I really did like Twilight, a lot actually, just wanted more.

In general MMO's but specifically World of Warcraft. Oh and anything with Tom Clancy in the title. I'll take Metal Gear and Solid Snake over Splinter cell and Sam Fisher any day.

That's actually most people's only complaint with TP; even though it has as many dungeons as OoT, they have a tendency to get shorter as the game goes on.
As for not playing OoT, you missed out.

Try the Splinter Cell books, they're much better than the games, because the first two are told mostly first-person by Sam Fisher, (In chapters revolving around him, all other chapters are third-person) so you get a good deal of his delightfully dark humor.

another problem is that I could never get into Clancy's writing at all. never could get the first chapter in any of the books by him that I've attempted to read.

That's the thing, the books aren't written by Clancy. The first two are written by Raymond Benson under the alas David Michaels. Benson not only wrote a handful of James Bond books, he also wrote a novelization of Metal Gear Solid that was released earlier this year.

Tom Clancy definitly. These games always get awesome reviews and lost of hype, but they are a huge pain in the ass to play! One of those times where realism kills fun.
To be fair, the whole Halo series! Everyone acts like this series is the end all to First person shooters. We're talking about a freakin console game here! Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Halo 1 and 2 on my Xbox, but I didn't find it to be the best FPS ever. And honestly the graphics never have been impressive to me. Everyone acts like it was where the original Xbox showed its true power, but honestly I think PS2 could easily push halo!

I think, for Halo, it's where the X-box showed us it's true power, when it came to multi-player.
The graphics never were OMGASM awesome, but the multiplayer was the best we have for consoles.

Zelda tended to be fairly overrated. Also, so was bioshock. I mean, when you're done single player, what else is there to do?

To be honest, the only halo I really liked was the first one. And it really shined in the single player mode! Awesome storyline, killer music, and well decent graphics. I had a blast with this first one. And also fun as hell to fire up on multiplayer with your friends.
Halo 2, however, isn't nearly as fun to play as the first one. I mean its awesome until you gotta play as the stupid Alien. Thats really what killed halo 2 IMO. Having to switch between the Master Cheif and the Alien! Its freakin halo, I wanna play as the master cheif or nobody!

it is ridiculously hard, and it is over hyped.
And it is not much fun like driving games are supposed to be.

What was so wrong with the Arbiter that it made Halo 2 so bad? His gameplay was no different Master Chief, other than his Active Camo, and he gave the story more depth by showing things from the Covenant's point of view.
Actually, I have to say Halo 1 was the weakest of the three. Halo 2 at least had the most gameplay and, by extension, story, and Halo 3 had more weapons and vehicles, and a whole bunch of extra stuff added in, (Achievements, armor variants, custom match types, etc) and the best graphics and character animation. (Guilty Spark, a glowing blue ball, was able to show more emotion than the Master Chief)
As for something I find over rated, rather than just arguing against everyone else: Gran Turismo. It took me three days of practice before I could figure out how to turn without crashing. Pretty graphics and a lot of cars does not not excuse gameplay like that! Give me Project Gotham Racing or Burnout any day.

Grand Turismo is nothing more than a series to show off the power of playstation systems. Its never been fun to play. Definitely over-rated I agree with that.

Meanwhile Burnout is a series where me and Tweezy were losing, and we were still having fun.
And Project Gotham, I don't care that it doesn't have Batman, it's still awesome. It's what Gran Turismo should be.

As much as I love Final Fantasy VII it is over-rated. VI was by far the best game in the series, and (IMHO) The best game ever made.

I've never been a fan of FFVII. It was a good game, but nowhere near worth all the spinoffs, movies, and other crap that's been made from it. The true crime is that none of this fame went to FFVI, which is the far superior game. At least, that's how I feel.
Another game I'm not too fond of is Gears of War. I played the PC version and was disgusted by bugs even during the install (I couldn't even change the install directory). Teh game itself was lacking to me. The cover system was nice and I really like the story and graphics, but the gameplay just didn't click for me. Even on hardcore, it shouldn't take a clip and a half to kill a single Locust, not to mention I've had enemies survive 2 sniper shots to the temples and only lose their glasses. Bah! I uninstalled the game and gave it up.

Silent Hill 2. IMHO, it's not a good way to start a game with a five-minute jog through a foggy trail. My friend and I were just making fun of the game for the rest of the time.
Final Fantasy and its type. I don't really see the attraction of playing a game where you take two steps, run into a bad guy, and sit there going through a gazillion dialog boxes so you can take a single swing of your sword. Repeat more times than you can imagine. But a few million people can't be wrong.... I guess.
The Suffering. I played it, got to the end, and just got bored. The game was cool for a bit, but then I realized that there really was nothing to it but shoot everything a whole bunch of times and hope you survive. There's no strategy at all. Sure, you might have to figure out a puzzle once in a blue moon, but it's nothing more than a glorified first-person shooter without the fun. (For the record, I played its sequel, not the original, but are they really any different?)
Sims. I tried it for about a couple days. Couldn't get into it.
And, really, the Wii sports games (bowling, boxing, etc.) are getting a little old. They're okay for a bit, but I don't see myself playing for that much.
Shut yo mouf! That's the game everyone should marry!

I 'm almost certain that I'll catch hell for this, but I was never able to get into Final Fantasy. It wasn't the RPG elemnts so much as the combat, I just hated the system of we all take our turns thwacking each other. Maybe it's because I tried the series the same time I first got into Baldur's Gate 2, which possesed what for me, was the ideal combat system for an RPG.

Gears of War 2, even though its a nice game the popularity of it is compared to that of The Dark Knight.
