There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

It's still a bloody comedy. Transformers isn't set in reality either, so basically you just contradicted yourself AS USUAL.

Actually, yes, TransFormers is set in reality. The original cartoon and comics were set in 1984 real life Earth. They were set in reality. The DW comics and IDW comics are also set in reality. They are set in modern day on Earth. There is nothing that says that they are not set in reality. All of the TF stories are set in reality.

Secondly, in regards to Batteries Not Included, there are different forms of comedy. So, that excuse fo "it's still comedy" doesn't work.

Wow. OK, people, you heard it right here. Tramp thinks Transformers exist in real life. He just said it trying to backpeddle, and walked himself right into the Grand Canyon. Animaniacs must be set in reality too, since it's set in Los Angeles in hollywood in the 1990s. That's your criteria, isn't it?

No, Damolisher. don't be ridiculous. TransFormers is fiction, but it is still set in reality. Real life Earth is the setting that the fictional story takes place in. That does not mean that TransFormers really exist. Don;t try to read any more into something that what is said, and don't try and twist the meaning of what someone says either.

I'm not twisting what you said. Animaniacs is set in reality too by your defintion, it's set in real life Los Angeles, considering you've got real life celebrities in animated form floating around.

Yes, Damoliser, you are twisting meanings around. You are trying to put TransFormers on the same level as Animaniacs because they are both animated. The problem with that is that they are two completely different genres. In the case of TransFormers animation is just the medium used to tell the story. It isn't the defining factor of the story. TransFormers is science fiction. That is the genre. Animaniacs is slapstick—a completely different genre with its own rules. You are comparing apples and oranges. You can't argue with me on this because I do have a degree in cartoning fro the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I know exactly what I am talking about here. In slapstick, pretty much all bets are off. That is not the case in science fiction and fantasy. In sci-fi fantasy, you need to have a basis in reality or the suspension of disbelief is destroyed.

Has anyone ever told you you've got a really closed mind? Yeah, you're an artist, not a writer. Big difference. You drwa pretty pictures all day. Writers actually write the story, you know, which means they can do whatever they want. Transformers is also a kids' cartoon, and they aren't gonna know what's what about science, are they, as far as what's physically possible is and isn't. You see, unlike you, who at 37 is still watching cartoons simply to critique what's wrong with them, going by your posts, children just enjoy cartoons for the characters and the story telling. You're not a kid, so you care about science. Children don't give a damn. I think I'd know, I have young cousins who like Transformers. They love Transformers because of the personalities of the characters. And if you can't see that, then you're obviously not much of a fan of anything, and I'd hate to read anything you write if you become a writer, because it'd be as close to reading a book written by an Exclusive Brethren you can get.

Damolisher, do you really think kids are as uneduacted as it seems you do? Yes, kids watch a show to enjoy it. The thing is that they also know instinctively when something doesn't make sense. knowing how to keep a stroy grounded in reality, and knowing what physical laws to bend, and how to do so plausibly is part of good story telling. Simply throwing the bok out the window simply because you think that because the audience is children, they won't care, is just bad story telling. Kids do care, and they want good story telling. That measn the writers have to think very carefully about what they can break, what they can bend, and what must be kept realistic. It is a balancing act, and perhaps one of the greatest challenges a writer faces, especially a science fiction or fantasy writer.
Secondly, I am a writer. I've been working on my own book for a number of years now trying to get it right so that I can find a publisher. Part of being a cartoonist is writing, especially if you are working with your own characters, and not soemone elses. I am the artist and writer of my book.

Oh, sure, Tramp, they're teaching kids about quantum physics right after they LEARN THE ALPHABET. As you so kindly pointed out a few topics back, I'm just a 19 year old kid. I have young cousins, as I've stated. I think I'd know more about what kids are taught these days than you do. You are a joke. You claim "Duh, Kids know good writing involving physicially possible things, blah, blah, blah" WRONG! Children do not want this. They want good storytelling with in depth characters. They like things with imagination. Things that are physically possible are things they do NOT CARE ABOUT! Seriously, if we all wrote books according to what you deem what kids want to see, we'd have a whole bunch of litle Ben Steins walking around talking like robots themselves. How do you think Transformers was thought up in the first place? Imagination. And to get to Earth, they had to break the laws of science.

And Tramp, have you ever wondered why you seem to be the only one I ever get into these arguments with? It's because you're too pigheaded to understand ANYTHING contrary to what you feel is possible, what YOU want to see, and what YOU want done with Transformers. You're claiming all these things kids want, when in reality, it's what YOU want. And last time I checked, 37's a long time after puberty. No offense, but at your age, you're more likely to be laughed at by Transformers writers if you start making demands.

Aruging anything with you is an exercise in futility, because you've got a one-track mind, and you've got tunnel vision when it comes to your ideas. And all you do is dictate to others while crying "Wah, you've closeminded and trolling" yourself, when it's exactly what you're doing. You backpeddle, you flip-flop,Tramp, you would be the PERFECT politician. PLease come to New Zealand, and take over from Helen Clark.

Intimidated? Please. The only reason you won't be quiet is because you're a troll who has to argue with everyone. Seriously, you've been here 2 months, and you've pissed quite a lot of people off, compadre. Compared to me who's pissed almost the same amount off in 4 years. And seriously, I don't expect to intimidate or silence you. Vocal Cord Removal Surgery couldn't intimidate or silence you.

Damolisher, I'm not the one throwing insults around left and right simply because soemone doesn't agree with me or because someone is discussing something I don't care about. Secondly, disagreeing and debating aren't against the rules of this board. And, for the record, I don't disagree or argue with "everyone".

Yo, I'm not insulting anyone, what you're doing is being an obnoxious, abstinant pain in the arse, and if telling the truth is insulting someone, I guess I am, and I never said debating was against the board rules, but all your doign is contradicting yourself with every post, and constantly shooting down other peoples arguments, then telling anyone else off who does the same. I'm like you, Tramp, I dont' back down either, only problem is, most peopel know I'm right.

No, Damolisher, "most peopel" don't "know" you are right. Don't delude yourself. And, no I am not constantly contradicting myself either. Secondly, Matters of opinion aren't something that can be shot down, and matters of fact can be debated. If there is a problem in a person's argument I will point it out, but I'm not arbitrarily shooting anyone down. You do simply because you don't like the concept.

Regardless, Let's get back to the real purpose of this thread.

No, it's simply pointless arguing with you about something that has nothing at all to do with the subject of this thread, and is thus derailing the thread.
Tramp

Postby Damolisher » Wed Aug 29, 2007 10:17 pm

Uh, Earth to stupid guy, you're the one who derails most of these threads with pointless arguing in the first place by not shutting up and letting someone else possibly bump the topic up later. And for the last time, stop bloding words randomly. It doesn't make you look smarter, or like your putting emphasis on anything. You even do it in posts it doesn't need to be done in, and it makes you look like you're talking down to people.

This is a warning for trolling..

That makes it warning # 4

And I move to the next thread.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).
