A lot of stuff happened during the Clone Wars. It was a huge, Galaxy-wide conflict with plenty of political intrigue and the Jedi at the top of their game. They had more going on during the Clone Wars than any other war in the series.

They're the main characters. Most fiction tends to focus on the main character(s).

She died because Jacen used Mind Trick on her, a power which isn't supposed to effect Jedi. It's not a matter of overall power, either, it's just not supposed to work on Jedi or other strong willed people. (Cad Bane, for example)
Which goes to show, once and for all, Karen Traviss doesn't know jack about Star Wars. I fear for Gears of War and Halo. It seems she's working on those franchises as now.
