I've used Mac. I couldn't really DO anything, because I couldn't FIND anything.
Seriously, where was it all? We used it in my Literature Through Films class, and no one could find the button to make the font bigger or smaller in whatever-the-hell word proccessor it used. It took us about an hour to find it!
Having used both Windows and Mac, I much prefer Windows.
I haven't really tried UNIX, though. XP is working well enough that I don't really have to switch to anything else.
Keep in mind it takes a long while to learn any new system. Think back to the first time you used a PC. Hard wasn't it?

The problem is, it's not allowing me to use the programs I need to use in order to graduate this June.
Reformatting the hard drive we already tried, and getting a new hard drive is out of the question, since I don't feel like having my parents go through and get some more stuff.
The thing that really irks me is Autodesk charging people for the vista fix. Microsoft when asked how to go about switching from Vista back to XP until Vista becomes more compatible giving you a "Why would you want to do that?" answer and not helping in any way.
It just pisses me off, that I get this computer to make doing 3d modeling and all the other stuff go a lot easier when it comes to rendering, and I get jerked around by the companies and really not be allowed to do what I need/want to do.
This is why I hate Vista. I'm not even bothering loading up the other programs I need like Adobe Premiere, Corel, After Effects and everything else as I don't want to go through the trouble of figuring out what works and what isn't.
So I'm going back to XP until Microsoft does something to make Vista worth using for anything other than Web-surfing.

I'm honestly not surprised at Autodesk charging for a patch. After all they're the ones who created the sin to CAD knwon as AutoCAD. They make stupid decisions on a constant basis. It wouldn't surprise me though if Adobe came out with an update here soon for Vista. Free I can't say.
Senor Hugo wrote:It's as simple as that. With the new computer came Vista. I tried installing XP when the computer came, but got a "fatal error" every time we booted from the CD. So we figured best bet was to stick with Vista for now.
Now, Vista hadn't been so bad, until a couple days ago. Autodesk 3ds Max 9 won't run on the computer. Autodesk is putting out a fix you can buy, which royally pisses me off as I need that program for school purposes. Microsoft is no help on that end.
Now today, I find out that I have 27 days to activate Vista or else Windows will stop working. "No problem" I think, I'll just grab the cd the computer came with and slap in the activation key. Well turns out, the Vista that came with the computer is only a trial version anyway, and I need to buy the full software.
....it gets better.
Now my downloads folder for Bitcomet is being shown as empty, when there are several folders and files in the sucker. I can see the files through the media player, but apparently can't access or see them through the regular folder.
Man I hate Vista, I hate Microsoft, and I hope the people who worked on Vista and spawned this devil software, die of cancer and rot in a special level of hell.
I really hate Vista.

Was it an original OEM disc or retai disc? Or one that was burned? If it was burned this is not Vista's fault, and if it is an original, it is probably a bios setting. Again, not Vista's fault.

Not Vista's fault, blame Autodesk for charging to make their software compatible.

This is Vista's fault that you bought a computer with a trial version?

Maybe Vista is smart enough to know that your torrent files are likely illegal and it is just screwing with you. Wouldn't that be fun.

In summation, you have a technical problem with the wiring from your chair to your keyboard. Not Vista's fault. Vista might not be perfect, but the least you could do is accuse it of something that it is actually to blame for.
Pokey the Clown wrote:Microsoft didn't make your motherboard, therefore the BIOS setting has nothing to do with them.
Vista is NOT XP, nor is it a simply modified version of XP, as was XP from Win2K. It is decidedly NOT Microsoft's fault that your program doesn't work with theirs. It is YOUR responsibility to check compatibility before you switch operating systems.
It is not Best Buy's fault that you didn't know what you are buying. Stop blaming everyone else because you are ignorant.
MAYBE you have a real problem with your folders, but considering how off-base you are with everything else, I highly doubt it.
And Vista is definitely not to blame for you being forced to survive on Ramen. The source of you troubles is you, not Vista. Take responsibility instead of putting blame.
p.s. - No, I do not work for Microsoft. Vista is not perfect, but is is far better than the people who attempt to use it and fail miserably.
Nightwatcher wrote:I beg you folks not to turn this into a Mac vs. PC flame thread.
I've tried Vista. And I dislike it. Especially the new IE. I'll keep using XP as long as it works.

Is installing Vista a good idea?
At least it has stopped seizing up and telling me it was to begin "Dump of physical memory", whatever that means.
