That would be interesting, but I doubt the Autobot would plant a mole that would be as merciless as Tarn. The guy has tortured and mutilated countless Autobots and Decepticons, which goes against the Autobot way of treating people.

But they are all like that. Not one of them has mercy. Hard to say which is the worst. Whomever the mole is they have to do what it takes to fit in with the rest. Even if it means doing all that horrible stuff I guess it comes down to who could actually do all that stuff. Roller and his need for relevance and contributing could play a big factor in how far he's willing to go (if my theory is true of course)

Hmmm that is true, but would Prime ever give the go ahead for this operation? I highly doubt he would want one of his closest friends to play that part. It could be Prowl who set it all up, he is the most likely Autobot higher up that would okay this operation.

Zeta would have to realize that something is wrong when his team checks in, Roller isn't there, and no one has any memory of what happened to him. He sends someone out to investigate and finds a wounded Roller.

By the time he becomes Prime, Zeta is fully aware of the threat the Decepticons pose. He needs a mole, but he knows how ruthless Megatron can be. What he really needs is someone whose loyalty to the Decepticon cause would never be questioned, someone who might not even know that he is a mole.

A bit of Shadowplay (maybe this is one of the things Chromedome isn't so proud of), some reconstructive surgery, and the bot who will become Tarn is born. The perfect spy because even he's not aware of it.

That actually makes a lot of sense and would explain why such a merciless command was issued.
