While I agree that Cheadle wasn't as good as Howard with the character, I totally disagree with you on the second point. Basically, at that point, Tony is showing just how irresponsible he is with the Iron Man armor, especially since he was, for lack of a better word, intoxicated at the time. I'd say what the character did was expected.

Autobot032 wrote:I thought Ivan was great, but underused, and I think his part in the final battle (not his performance, but how he attended) was one bit too much.

Too much? He was barely there. He just shows up, fights for a minute or so, then dies. Hardly "much", in my opinion.

Autobot032 wrote:Hammer just grated on my nerves. Sam Rockwell is such a great actor (watch Moon), but all he did was whine and act like a petulant child who had too much power.

Um...that's kind of the point of the character.

Tyrannotaur wrote:
I found Black Widow a bit lacking. She just seemed to be there as eye candy. Also I thought she was russian, or am I missing something?

Yes, the character is meant to be Russian, though the fact that Scarlett Johansson doesn't speak with an accent doesn't immediately make that obvious.

I basically felt that Terrance Howard played a good Rhodes, but not a good War Machine. Don Cheadle could handle both roles IMO. Also they said that Tony let him have it as they said that each suit has safety protocols to prevent someone from stealing one.

...he was dying. Up to that point, he had saved the world countless times. I'd say he's shown he was more than responsible with that kind of power. I think that whole portion of the film wasn't handled well.

I should've clarified, but I didn't want to spoil anything, but I'll go ahead and do that. His presence wasn't the problem. I wanted to see more of Ivan, but him showing up in an armored suit, along with Iron Man and War Machine was the too much part. It had just been one long robot death match sequence all before that, and we've already seen an Iron Monger fight in the first movie, and it seemed like it was about to be a repeat of that again. I just felt the suits aspect was a bit overused in the ending. That's the too much part.

To an extent, but they carried it a bit too far. I'd have liked him to be a bit more devious and a little more of a threat. Like a "look out for the quiet ones" kinda psycho. I just felt they kinda failed where he was concerned.

I still enjoyed the film, but there are glaring problems with it. And I still hold firm to my opinions here. (I'm digging in my heels now, because I have a feeling this post won't be the last. =\ )

i agree with you on this. it was a decent movie. had a few problems. some things could have been portrayed better.

The filmmakers said that plot was meant to mirror the "Demon" story arc.

I'm not going to waste my time and yours by trying to evaluate the movie. I'm just going to say that I watched it and had a darn good time doing so. In my mind, that's what makes a good movie.

Seen it with a group of friends who aren't geeks like myself which sucked as it seemed I was the only one who got the "easter eggs"(Cap America's shield, Thor's hammer) in it. Despite that I really enjoyed it. SLJ awesome mofo as usual, Rourke excellent, I wouldn't care if he popped up in a TF movie tbh. One of my favs this year so far along with Kick Ass.

Well, obviously they made some changes, but yes, it is more or less based on the "Demon" story.

Watched it with my wife last night and a full theater, mostly of geeks like me. Thought it was a blast.

A few little notes:

1. Captain America shield "easter egg"? That wasn't an easter egg. That was HILARIOUS. It was up, in your face, can't miss this, hey look here! Easter eggs are at least kind of hidden.

2. Tony Stark invents a new element. No name is given, but I have a sneaky suspicion what it will end up being: vibranium. It would allow Marvel to work around the alien substance angle in future movies. Just a hunch, but it sorta makes sense.

3. Loved RDJ. He really is perfect for this and I'm beginning to wonder if he's maybe the most talented actor of our time, especially if you look at the diversity of his roles as of late: Tropic Thunder, Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man. Great work in all.

4. Loved Justin Hammer's character. Played the "CEO who doesn't understand his work really" very well. I got the impression that he claimed all the successes of his company's engineers without really understanding them. Was hilarious when he tried to dance out onto the stage and the expo- clearly trying to emulate Stark, and even doing so badly.

5. My wife was very happy that Pepper and Tony finally got together in the end. Me, not so much. Just doesn't seem right.

6. Disppointed that they "cured" Stark. I always liked the "I'm going to leave my mark because I'm slowly dying angle".

7. The chemistry between Potts and Stark was great again.

8. Agree that Black Widow seemed extraneous. However, I'm thinking that this movie was simply a way to introduce her to the Marvel Big Screen Universe. It was awesome though when she started to seriously kick ass. It didn't even look like she was exerting herself, so I doubt we've seen what she's capable of. One other note on her: yes, she was Russian originally. However, remember they have turned SHIELD into an American organization, as opposed to a global one. It would make sense for her to be American in this incarnation. She needed MUCH more screen time in that catsuit :HALUC:

9. AM I the only one who thinks that Garry Shandling looks like crap? I barely recognized him as Sen. Stern. He played a senator so well that I thought he WAS a senator before I recognized him. I also noted that the movie seems to make a bit of a political statement there, an inditement on how politicians like to say only what they need to prove their cases and omit anything else that may disprove their point. THink there was a jab at the media in there, too. Oh, and I SOOOO want that phone Stark had in that scene..:-P

10. Naturally, everyone left in the theater at the end of the credits clapped when they saw what had been found in the dig.

11. SMJ as Nick Fury was pretty good. Nothing overwhelming, but good.

All in all, a FUN FUN FUN movie. It seemed to me that this movie is there to set up other movies, not just IM3 but Thor, Avengers, etc. Definitely going to see it again to get some of the parts I missed!
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

The sequel isn't X2 or Dark Knight but it sure is a lot of fun.

I really do love that Monaco race sequence. Most importantly, I love the scenes with Tony and Pepper just as with the first movie. And I really dig Justin Hammer's character.

The Nick Fury and Black Widow scenes may not have been as integral to the actual story as I imagined at least Fury had me excited about The Avengers.

I liked how the Ex-Wife didn't do anything. I felt that move generated with Iron Man and War Machine's lasers was taken from Marvel Alliance 2.

What can I say.. a great movie for a comic book fan!

It was dissapointing, but not bad. It just felt mroe like a prequel to Avenger more than an Iron Man sequel.

My biggest problem was that it felt "lighter" than the first movie (I blame Disney). Seriously, the fist one had Tony kidnapped and tortured by terrorists! This one felt a bit more tame by comparison. I was disappointed by the Whiplash/Crimson Dynamo armor. It felt like a step backward from the first villain, Iron Monger.

But his whips are awesome! I don't know why, it just looked really cool in a very simplistic way. :APPLAUSE:

I thought the movie was good. I def enjoyed it and it was a good action movie in general. I wish it were better though. It has been stated a couple times in this thread, and I totally agree, the final battle just really didn't do it. It was all kinds of action and awesome with a bunch of drones flying around chasing the two suits. Then, when Ivan comes along, I was expecting this freaking awesome brawl..........and it lasted about a minute. :-( It was a serious disappointment to me.

Iron Man 2, I thought was solid, but not as good as the original. But then again, I'm already looking past this film and forward to Captain America.

I've enjoyed the toys thus far, but lack of Whiplash is causing me to slowly loose interest.
