DO NOT BUY the game.

If anything, it is a rental.

The game is a large $60 steaming pile of crap with the Transformers logo slapped on front.

Yes, there are destructible environments, destructible up to a point.

Meaning, the 'skeleton' will still be there. You can't level a city. You can destroy buildings up to a point, then nothing happens.

Buildings get destroyed way too easily, you lob a tree at a building, the building detonates. You fart next to a building, it gets destroyed.

You can't jump and mid-air transform, you can jump, land, then transform, but you can't jump and transform.

Your melee weapons, guns, fists, whatever do jack diddly against any enemy. It makes you wonder why the hell they even gave you weapons if they don't do squat.

If you hit another robot with a tree, full out baseball bat type swing, tree does not break, unlike in the trailer, where it shows the sucker break upon impact.

Trees, fences, telephone poles, are much more effective at killing robots than your guns.

You can't kill humans, at least in Crazy Taxi they jumped out of the way when you drove at them. In this game, you hit a human, you just push them to the side and they keep running. It sucks.

The missions suck, Autobots have all these 'get to this checkpoint in X time' missions, making you rely on driving.

Driving is clumsy as hell in the game.

Action zones = no-fun zone

If this game didn't have the name "Transformers" on it. It wouldn't even be worth renting.

Don't know about the console games, but the DS games are decent. For the most part, you play as a generic Autobot or Decepticon, depending on which verson you get. There are some missions where you get to play as actual characters(Ratchet and Brawl, for example). Enviroments aren't really destructible(just trees, signs, etc.), but there are some cool missions. I saw something about an "action zone" on the X-Play review of it, and heard of something like that before, and I can't remember anything like that happening much. Also, the game is fully voiced, and loosely follows the movie plot, but not exactly. For example, you'll help out Ironhide in the Artic investigate Megatron still frozen, when in actual movie continuity, he's been gone for a good LONG while.

So since I haven't played the console game(probably pick it up in the bargain bin, it'll get there, you know it), is it really that inferior to the DS games in terms of overall gameplay, and mission variety/structure?

Oh yeah, I love Barricade's voice in the DS games. He sounds like a guy from some U.S. Navy commercials to me.

Just rent it.

I've already kicked off a thread saying how it's not that good so I won't complain here. Senor Hugo summed up how I feel about it anyway.
The Pros are just the character model's detail and the ability to transform them at will.
It's just a commerical for the film, you can tell by the unlockables being the film's trailers and over 100 screenshots. Completed it in less than 2 days.

I have the Wii version, and saying it's made exactly the same for all the consoles I don't think the result will be different on Xbox/PS3. Graphically probably a little sharper. Game doesn't really use the Wiimote which isn't a surprise.

People should read your words and make them into memories in their head, less they do something foolish, like buy this game.

:BOT: I have the PS2 version. I'm having some fun with it... but I agree with Senor Hugo. Especially with the clumsy driving and fighting... locking onto an enemy sucks. :CON:

I thought it was pretty damn fun. IN fact, I played through it twice in a row.... I never do that with a game anymore.

The only thing I can really think of that is just suck beyond suck is finding all of the damn energon cubes....but if you're real careful & do a section-by-section sweep....they're usually easy to find. It's really just the last few that make you want to pull your hair out.

Okay, I have to let you guys know about the Transformers video game based on the recent film, so consider this a review of sorts. Additionally, if there are differences between the games for different consoles, please alert me to them here.
I have the PS2 version, and I was surprised and disappointed at the overall game itself. The biggest surprise was how little there is to do in the game. Other than going from mission to mission, all you can do is play boring mini games, mostly beat the clock type, you can run around and collect energon cubes and faction symbols for bonus content, you can try to get 5-point ratings in stunts like: YAY! Throwing things really far, driving fast and then slamming on your brakes, and dodging traffic at high speeds to jump off of ramps. WHEEE! Pardon my sarcasm. And the missions themselves? There is nothing more frustrating than playing the same mission over and over because you can't seem to beat(the often really short)time limit! What gets me is the lack of content that really has anything to do with the Transformers universe. Robots in disguise? Not here. No matter the form, you can identify an enemy and vice versa. What's the point of transforming into something if you can't use it as a disguise? Next is the radar, it shows you nothing more than the location of your next waypoint, oh and enemies that are already in view. That brings me to the fact that you can't even transform in mid-air, you have to be touching the ground to transform either way! Did I say transform??? Sorry, I forgot. On the controller display it lists the button that is used to change forms as the "convert" button. CONVERT??? You mean.....Transform? Is this game even about the Transformers? And of course the bonus content is lackluster, mostly second hand movie photos and trailers, comic book covers, and movie toy package photos. What??? I see that stuff in magazines for crying out loud! How is that a bonus? And, oh God, the targeting system! Don't even bother, the lack of a first person perspective blows, and the heads up display, if you can call it that, sucks. The reticule is constantly in the way, its not in the center; its 1/4 above center, and you have to move your entire field of vision just to move the reticule onto a moving enemy, point it almost straight down, and try to hit the lock-on button fast enough just to give you a fighting chance in battle. WTF?! Would you play this? The only reasons that I am keeping this game are for collectibility: Original G1 series voice acting, you can play with some G1 character skins, and the cheats are not bad. If you are bored and a Transformers film fan, you might kind of sort of maybe come near to possibly somewhat enjoying this game...for about 15 minutes. Otherwise just borrow a friends copy, or rent it. Now we just need a game based on the orignal series. Primus save us.

You mean the scans from that guide? Don't bother, they're incomplete.

Your best bet is to simply be methodical in your exploration. Go block by block, looking in alleys, under boxes, etc.

No need...I found them all. & I'm keeping that 100% complete file intact & doing any other game playing on another file, so I don't have to do it again, unless I just get really bored.

Hey, at least they give you a lot of bonus pics & stuff for them. Probably wouldn't be too worthwhile if it weren't for the fact that you can just get a handful here & a handful there & still feel like you got something for your efforts.

BTW is anyone else having probs with the site?

Here's a question for ya.

Is it worth £20?

I mean, I played it in GAME the other week on a 360, and what I played through was pretty decent.

Yes. Hell, its achievements are so easy they are worth the £20 alone...if you are a gamerscore whore that is..lol

But yeah the game is well worth £20.

Not much more, though! But yeah, you'll have a lot of fun getting the simple achievements, so that might be worthwhile.
