Just read Infiltration

Postby UltraPrimal » Sun Jul 15, 2007 12:41 pm

Motto: "Vote for Beast Wars!"
Weapon: Sword
This is kind of the first Transformers comic/graphic novel I've read. My first comic/graphic novel. I've tried to find what G1 comics I could on the net, but they're impossible to find now. I love the book, but I don't know where to go from here 'cause I don't keep up with comic news.

So I'm wondering, this a 150+ page book, so is this a collection of all 6-7 of the Infiltration books? Or is this just volume 1, as it say on the spine, of a 6-7 issue series? And then there's Escalation and Devastation after that?

Also, is this series not a part of G1? More a retelling? And what about the Spotlights and Stormbringer? Are the part of this continuity? And is Infiltration the beginning?

Oviously, I've been into Transformers for a long time. With the toys or cartoons(American of Japanese) I consider myself an expert. But it seems when it comes to the comics, I'm a bit of a newb.

If you check out my rather long winded post in this thread

http://seibertron.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10200&sid=

you'll find a rundown on the various G1 comics from across the years, breif overviews rather than detailed synopsis, and roughly what's been collected into book form.

With the IDW stuff it's a completely new continuity reimagining G1 from the start. The Infiltration trade collects all 7 issues of Infiltration (0-6) and is numbered book 1 because it's the first volume of IDW material overall. Vol 2 is Stormbringer which focuses on Cybertron and provides some more back story for the IDWverse and Vol 3 is Escalation which takes the action back to Earth. I believe that the Spotlight TPBs are being numbered seperately because these one shot stories can fit in at different points in the timeline, but they do link back to the main continuity and give us a chance to see characters that there's not really space for in the main books.

Hope that helps, and welcome to the IDWverse.

The IDWverse can be a little a confusing at first, but you'll get used to it. Basically, comic shops were hesitant to endorse another ongoing and wanted TF in a mini-series capacity. Fans want stability and prefer an ongoing. So, to compromise, the IDW ongoing series is composed of separate mini-series. Each mini-series is a "chapter" of the ongoing. If you are getting the trades, the number on the spine tells you where it fits in the ongoing continuity. If you are getting the individual issues, there is an "ongoing number" system that can found on the barcode (ie: Stormbringer #1 has a "7" on its barcode, Stormbringer #2 has a "8" on its barcode and so forth).

IDW's Furmanverse is a complete re-set.

Best off pushing everything you read in the DW, Marvel and Titan books away to the side. None of them have any influence in the Furmanverse.

Its a good setup too, as the more comics from outside the main storyline (Infiltration, Escalation, Devastation) you read, the better it is. You can skip Hearts of Steel and Beast Wars if you wish, they have no bearing on the main series, but Stormbringer and the Spotlights add plenty of depth to the Furmanverse.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

I was actually surprised at how much the the IDW books complement each other. I would also advise skipping Hearts of Steel. I didn't even bother with it after the second issue.

Don't worry, this is my first series of tf comics as well. But it has turned out extremely well written, with the spotlights giving further insights to the goings on. Highly reccommended.
