Honestly, I'm also quite sick and tired of the "Megs turns into Galv" concept. I mean, that's been used too often recently. And if Megs turns into Galv in part 2, he's gonna have to remain as Galvatron unless someone slags him and he gets reformatted and decides to name himself as Megatron (again).
As for the tension between Starscream and Megatron, I think that it started quite a long time ago (even the novel prequel stated this). And if SS has "failed again", that means he's failed before, presumably quite often. And considering how easily pissed off this version of Megatron is, i think that amounts to quite alot of tension.
