I agree, especially since he gets a whole new Predacon color scheme with the silver instead of gold and I think a purplish tint to his skin color instead of brown (and perhaps some other color swaps???). A Predacon Rhinox redeco would be very welcomed!

Hm, thinking about a Predacon Rhinox redeco, you know what would be fun is to see an Insecticon color scheme on Waspinator inspired by him talking about Shrapnel in Dark Designs. Maybe on a Transmetal Waspinator if they ever tackle those (just as a fun non-canon one-off), though canonically his original body would make sense from Dark Designs, but for legacy purposes Transmetal Waspinator would fit in better with G1 Insecticons.

Also, I know it's just the Rhino mouth's upper palate behind his head, but it totally looks like Rhinox has long blonde hair and a mohawk.

That is funny. I feel the same way. But now that I think about it, it makes sense. Beast Wars being cg was much closer to being photo-realistic. So show to toy works. The 84 cartoon was a drawing of what we imagined to be photo realistic. So show accuracy may be cool and fun for some people looking for cartoon looking models, but for others it seems off.

That is funny. I feel the same way. But now that I think about it, it makes sense. Beast Wars being cg was much closer to being photo-realistic. So show to toy works. There's that. Plus there's the idea that the CG transformations and differences between modes are literally impossible (they replace one 3d model with another), while the G1 show transformations were all based on the toy transformations. So While giving Optimus a fake cab feels off, since the part is right there, giving Rhinox a totally different "fake" rhino mouth is fine since that cartoon look simply can't be replicated. Plus, I love how they still find ways to incporporate these fake parts in the alt modes, like having the fake raptor head on Dinobot's chest become the belly for the raptor mode.

I stopped collecting G1 MPs because I found it cheating that they would just use fake parts for everything, for slight aesthetic reasons. I get something more satisfying with the CGUG lines. But with Beasts Wars, nothing comes close and the MPs feel like miracles. Still waiting on that Terrorsaur.

Well Rhinox looked like pure magic once again, so the big question was: how does the back look like? Well, not bad as it turns out. There is a backpack, which he should have, but it looks clean for what it is rather than a mess of parts. You can see for yourself with these images from Takara. The side view of the rhino mode does look more messy with some robot bits peering from the bottom.

Listings from Japanese retailers at their discounted retail price, like $165 USD at Ami Ami are now up. We'll update when Amazon Japan has a similar price.

I don't think the side view is that bad. Since everything is the same color it sort of blends together, it would be different if the bot parts were green or black.

Are the rhino eyes articulated? In the top image they're looking forward, but on the bottom they're looking to the side. Is it just a trick of the camera?

Feels nice to see his cartoon head again, after the previous toys seemed to ignore it.
The enginering looks very solid.

Let's also be clear. Aside from the Dark Design redeco, Rhinox is a one and done mould. He had a Takara colour scheme variation*. But there were no other bots that came from him.



Rattrap, Terrorsaur and Scorponok have the most redeco variants of those remaining. Airazor and Tarantulas have none. Waspinator technically has Buzzsaw and Inferno has Antagony. I'd like to see all of the variants in the MP line. But it's hard to tell if Takara will extend the BW MP line that far.

There's always the possibility of giving a new name to the Fox Kids repaint. It's not like the MP line doesn't already have a long history of taking obscure repaints and giving them new identities.

I'd be fine with that. I suppose that depends on how well Rhinox sells? Remember both Grimlock and T-Wrecks have not made it into the Beast Wars MP line so far.


I did forget this Rhinox had a Fox Kids redeco too. I guess that is three redeco possibilities for Rhinox.
One of them could be re-appropriated as this guy:

While Masterpiece Rhinox is available for pre-order at plenty of online retailers, fans were waiting to see how low the price could get. Well Amazon Japan now has the figure at $160 USD, thanks to their customary discount on Transformers figures. That's the current conversion on the ¥24068 price you see when adding the figure to your cart. Of course, that price does not include shipping or any duty/custom fees.

For those unaware, orders from Japan for MP figures tend to ship sooner than their Hasbro counterparts. So that's another reason fans tend to choose Amazon Japan over western retailers. You'll let us know which option you go with.

Keep in mind that's at today's exchange rate. You get charged when the figure comes out for whatever the rate is at that time. That's been advantageous as heck using USD for years, but never know when that luck will turn.
