Every new movie franchise with planned sequels, has to deal with being "the new guy" in such an expensive buisness. Transformers G1 (The best show) was in the 80s, while the movie critics on tv thought they were to old to watch it, this generation now was to young. Some of fans of the current child-teen generation, might only have Galaxy Force (Cybertron), to look to for reference. I think maybe they should of released Transformers "Heroes" first, to maybe build up a new fanbase and possibly make more of a profit on the movie.

Hogwash. First of all, next week is not summer. If you expect people to be consider Spider-Man 3 a summer movie because people will be seeing into the summer, it would have to have greater popularity for people to go see it instead of Pirates 3. So either Spider-man 3 shouldn't technically be on the list, or they're totally overrating Pirates 3.

Second of all, $235 million is the "safe bet." All the movies above it are sequels, with two or more successful movies preceeding them. They're not projecting sales just on whether or not people will LIKE the movies; they're projecting it based on the prequel sales. But I say it's like rolling a die. Just because you roll a six twice in a row doesn't affect the odds of you rolling a six the third time.

And if Transformers beats its $235 mill projection? Then all hell will break loose.

This is complete bullshit! I have been working in the movie theater business for some time and I haven't spent money on a tickets since Carrie 2 the revenge. Neither has my army of friends or family for that matter. Everyone has the understanding that opening day they must purchase at least 2 tickets for themselves even if they see it once. I will be buying tickets to every theater in L.A. for every show even though I won't be there. And I'll make sure everyone sees Pirates and all that other crap for free! Mua ha ha ha ha.

Why does everyone hate Michael Bay so much? His movies Do Not suck, by any stretch of the imagination. On paper, and in practice, his movies give you everything you want or Could want from a blockbuster movie experience. I just don't get why people give this guy such a hard time. His movies have Action, Comedy, Romance, Politics, and to top it off, he's got his own style. You can tell it's a Michael Bay film when you see it. He doesn't make 'kiddie' movies. He makes movies with Huge explosions and Lude humor, plus, his casts always have charisma. Michael Bay's movies don't seem to have a lot of stupid dialogue either; take Armageddon for example. The whole movie is FULL of one-liners from just about everyone. Michael Bay has worked with some of the best and most well-respected actors on the screen and gotten A LOT of the qualities that make them so good out of them and into his movies. George Lucas certainly wasn't able to do that with the Prequel Trilogy- and I LOVE Star Wars!

All I'm saying is, this guy knows what he's doing. He get's the Actors to breathe life into their characters. Example: Steve Buscemi in Armageddon. Or, Ewan MacGregor in The Island. Through the characters they are portraying, you see what makes those particular actors so good. His Cinematography is excellent. Example: The scene in Pearl Harbor with the Japanese fleet flying over the baseball field(or is it a soccer field?). It gave me Goosebumps to see that many foreign air forces intruding on a kid's every day life; and he accomplished that with ONE camera move! His Editing Crews always get the pacing perfect; his movies never slow down. Maybe Pearl Harbor slowed down a bit, but that's because it was supposed to be more of a "Love Story" centered around the historic date.

My point is, I can not think of a better "Action Movie" director for Transformers. Who else is there?

Great to see another Chicago guy around here, and I totally agree. When it comes to portrayl of the military to action sequences, Micheal Bay is the man. I also agree with your opinion on Pearl Harbor, the Zeros flying past the clothes lines and everybody looking at them was spectacular

I keep trying to tell myself "I don't care what other people think!" But I can't help but read. Anyway, It'll be against SM 3, POTC 3, and TF. I don't care about Evan Almighty, and Shrek is turning into another fanchise being milked like a cow.

As much as i hate most of the designs, and the mouth thing(uuugggghhhhh....), I want the movie to rip everything else to shreds just because its Transformers. Sort of a tie up between Spiderman 3 and Transformers, the other movies, I don't know anything about. I'm just so afraid they messed it up too much, and the rest of the world(if they show up to see it) is going to look at it and say(to us the fans), why do you like Transformers? That movie sucked.

Spider-Man 3 is doing a good job of making money, but it is disappointing more and more people along the way (based on the feedback and reviews I've heard, as well as my own thoughts after seeing it). It might just give TF somewhat of a slight advantage. At least in reviews, that is...

Doesn't Harry Potter come out a week or so after Transformers? It's getting good buzz (the trailer looks excellent) and at it's worst will make over 700m WW (third one made $789,804,554 worldwide and that was the lowest gross of the series). With the final book coming out and sending the hype even further, it could be the biggest film of the series and make a billion. That is something Transformers is not going to want to run into.

True, Harry Potter will be all hyped up at the time of it's release (and is even now), but it is still the 5th movie in the series. I can see more kids (and older readers) buying the new book before getting to go see the new movie in the theater. I'm sure it will make a bunch of money, but I think TF is still a pretty strong contender against it (that is if they would promote the darn TF movie like it should be!).
