Started my playthrough, got my starter, named him Viper, and set off into the world. Only to find that there's an anti-piracy feature on this game that prevents Pokémon from levelling up. @_@

So until that gets fixed I'm stuck with a level 5 starter... Doh.

Well...that sucks..

On a side note, I am incredibly annoyed that they made that awesome purple bug/steel legendary...and then ruined it by giving it a face with 4 bucked teeth...

I'm now on the third gym, Viper is at level 41 and in his third form.

So far the graphics aren't the thing that is vastly improved from the old games, but what really strikes me is that the battles are much more refined now, everything flows much faster. No more waiting for weather effects at the end of every round, it just flows straight into the next turn. It's great!

My plan right now is to smash through to the elite four ASAP so I can start trading over some monsters.

So I take it you got around the level-lock?

Level 41 at the third gym? I haven't played Pokemon in some time, but isn't that just a bit overpowered?

Yeah, it is... I don't want to piss about. I want to get to the end of the game and trade over my capturing team so I can start team building and collecting. (The part of the game that I actually enjoy.)

Now begins the long wait for the English versions and the comprehensive Pokedex for training and breeding...

Pokemon really isn't an RPG in the sense that say, Final Fantasy is, it's very short and incredibly easy to beat. That's why the collecting and team building part is my favourite... Battling against other humans is much more satisfying.

Agreed! The end game content of pokemon is its strong point. It's easy enough to get through the gyms/trainers/Elite 4. I usually "beat" pokemon games in about 15 hours, but some of my games have ~200 hours put into them.

I just got a copy of Pokemon Black from Japan yesterday. Does anybody know why my DSi can't read it? It works just fine in my DS Lite and I can't find any info about it anywhere else. Is it some kind of new region protection with the DSi? My Japanese copy of HeartGold works just fine.

from what i am hearing the game is region locked.I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

I don't know about this game,so far I only like Zekrom,the grass starter,and the animes water starter/stalker pokemon. If I get the games this will be the 1st time I chose the grass starter as my starter pokemon..usually go with fire.

Heh, I'm the exact opposite. I usually choose the grass starter (the only previous exception to this being Mudkip) but I went with fire this time. It's the only multi-type starter, apparently, and I like how its evolved forms have a bit of a Mexican Wrestler vibe.

Unfortunately, region locking on DSi enhanced games is a reality, and something I'm not very happy about.

Nintendo's handheld has been region free since... always. You could go anywhere in the world and pop in a gameboy game from any store in any country and not have to worry about anything but the language.

With the multitude of RPGs released for the DS, I could not believe my luck! No need to worry about them never being sold in Europe because I could always rely on Nintendo's handheld to be region free...

Not anymore.

And it's going to be the same story with the 3DS too. Yet another dick move in the catalogue of dick moves that Nintendo seems to be making lately...
