Oh dear, is this what happened to all the surplus Bumblebee masks?

Oh dear, is this what happened to all the surplus Bumblebee masks?

Postby RedShifter88 » Tue Sep 30, 2014 10:48 pm

I just saw this Rocket Racoon mask on Amazon today:
http://smile.amazon.com/Marvel-Guardian ... FSACF31NSX

However, it looks kind of familiar, kind of like:
http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Dark ... B004S8MLZ2

Gee, is Hasbro swimming in as much Bumblebee as our stores? :D

It's made based of the same principle, in that it's made of plastic and straps over a kid's face, oh and it has two eyes for the buggers to look through.
News flash, most children's and adult masks have that in common, that's kinda the point behind them.

Well, now I know...and knowing is half the battle.

Seriously, Mr. Metal (because I don't know you well enough to call you "Dead") I was just joining in the fun, and not trying to up my post count, or hog the spotlight. That's just not me.

Truth be told, I wasn't looking for a Rocket Racoon mask - only a decent depiction of the Milano - and the mask appeared in the "you might also like these items, too" window. The second it appeared, I looked at the shape of the forehead, the placement of the ears and cheeks, the shape of the eye-holes, and thought that it was a Bumblebee mask retool.

After a couple more photos - ??? - maybe it only uses the Bumblebee mask's template? I mean, it makes sense, right? You design a template that fits the majority of children out there for the particular age group, and then you have modular pieces to change the appearance. Sell masks for one movie, and your profit is after you cover the cost of the initial design and tooling. Find a way to modify the covering of the template for another movie, and it's all profit this time.

The only way to make them cheaper is to do like the formed plastic masks we had in the 70's. Y'know, using the same plastic as in bakery danish boxes (mmmm, danish). Mold it, paint it, staple a broken rubber band on it, and...Poof! Captain America, Speed Racer, Luke Skywalker, Ultra Man, what have you. These masks just didn't hold up to play, though, or storage in a toy box. And once they split, you had some jagged edges on them. The new play masks
are stronger and safer...

I've enjoyed many posts on these forums, from long since before I was an official member. I'm pretty sure I saw many good posts from you, too. I'm more of a good listener, than top poster. I didn't mean to offend - please take no offense. Now what figures can I spot for you?

They look exactly the same if you ignore the simple fact that they don't look even the slightest bit similar.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing modular about this, BB's horns are where they're supposed to be, as are Rocket's ears. It's just a coincidence, it's due to how both are made to cover faces.
