Optimus and Jetfire combining in G1.

Would this have been a good idea? If they did, would it have worked well? Would it have looked good? I know the toys wouldn't be able to combine, unless we consider updated versions.

I dunno. I just feel like Optimus is his own guy in G1, really a sort of father-figure that is good on his own. But then again, he never combined with any other robot in G1... If that would have been the case, I might have felt otherwise.

What's with the obsession of combining Optimus and Jetfire? I don't understand it, first with Armada, then with RotF. Since when does "Jetfire" mean "Magic Mushroom"?
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Now I'm gonna think that every time I look at him...
I was just asking because I was bored. I was looking at Armada Jet Convoy and RoTF Jet Convoy side-by-side on my desk and thought of what other continuities had a Jetfire character. In Armada it made sense because it was (somewhat) original, and it did give Prime a good power boost, as well as adding an element to Prime and Jetfire's leader/2nd officer relationship. In RoTF it was basically just a dead guy/back pack on Optimus, and I think it was done just for the momentary wow factor (and it worked), and maybe a bit of homage (not likely, considering it's Bayverse).

Re: Optimus and Jetfire combining in G1.
As much as I love Optimus standing on his own as a character and individual, I really like the newer combining toys. With the exception of the ROTF one.
Armada Prime became the torso of his super-mode, so the capability to combine with Jetfire (as legs) was a welcome one that added play value, I think. The two toys are great on their own, and the "flight mode" is a cool extra feature.
Energon's theme was combining, so Prime had to combine this time. Together with Wing Saber, he had the cool attack mode/flight mode thing going on. The toys (heck, the whole line of toys) were a little clunky, but good fun.
Now, Cybertron Prime. Woo... where do I start? With Wing Saber (or Sonic Bomber) he shares a couple features and design aesthetics with God Ginrai, and is a huge, well built, solid toy. He's great!
In short, I like the idea of combining toys... I don't necessarily want it to become a feature of Optimus Prime, though. I think G2 was the last Prime that really stood as a single robot with no other combining gimmick. The exception being Classics/Henkei - but there's been so much fuss about trailers and Magnus/Powermaster armour it seems that many were disappointed he didn't have some cool combining feature or power-up mode.
