Optimus Prime Protoform Resembles A Diesel?

This is the best damn protoform I've ever seen but it vaguely resembles a diesel even equiped with wheels and headlights. Do transformers replicate the form they are most fit to take on before they scan it?

How can you tell? Except for the toy, which I felt was lame beyond lame, you only get a quick glimpse, not enough toi really see anything.
