I worship the Gen 1 bots but Michael Bay did a great job. The movie was non stop action from the moment Blackout flew in and started wasting fleshys to the scene when Starscream flew into space. Honestly, Megatron as a gun? How would a flying gun look on screen? He kicked total ass. Too bad he sleeps with the fishes. Bay is what it needed. I used to think he would ruin it but he gave the movie the action it needed. It was great and the next 3 will be even better!

I wouldn't mind if James Cameron did the next movie. Or even Peter Jackson. These are two good story telling directors who aren't too shabby with action/effects either. I mean anybody who can make Arnold or Orlando Bloom look like decent actors have to be good, right?

I think that people should be happy with what we were given. This movie is a huge milestone for the Transformers. There are certain great moments in Transformer history like the first G1 episodes and the G1 movie which everyone references and talks about for years. I think this movie will join that discussion whether it was completely successful or not. I see this movie setting the new standard by which Transformers will be compared and it has set the stage for a whole new mythology.
I dont think anyone is appreciating that you can now see your favorite alien robots in all of their living glory on the big screen and it has shown us that now Transformers will once again entertain us like they did so many years ago.
I myself have some story issues with the movie and little gripes here and there but I can do that to almost any movie I have ever seen. As for Stan Lee, he needs to look at some of the movie adaptations fo his creations and compare the narrative depth.

I don't think any director would be able to take 20 years of mythology and squeeze it into a two and a half hour "introductory" movie.
If a TF movie franchise is to succeed, it needs to draw in new fans and the only way to do that is to start things fresh, introduce things, and build from there.
And frankly, I think the movie did a great job of that. It took parts from the last 20 odd years of mythology, freshened things up, entertained people, and will no doubt draw in more fans.
Was Armada/Energon/Cybertron true to G1? It borrowed elements from G1 but also did it's own thing. Same with RiD. Funny how people seem to ignore that fact ...

There will always be debate among all of us. That is all of our rights. There are many characters to explore in the next movie. Keep Bay, Keep the continuity. now that ILM has the CGI worked out, I'm sure it can only get better. I'm a G1 old school, But I was impressed none the less. Maybe the DVD might give us all an extended edition and tighten up some weaker moments like what P Jackson did in the LOTR Trilogy.

And IMO, RiD/Armada/Energon/Cybertron all sucked. Not because they weren't G1 but the stories sucked.

I don't feel that it's a pointless exercise. I don't considering thinking a pointless exercise. If people didn't ever ask "what if" we would never even have Transformers. As a matter of fact, we would never have anything new unless it was discovered by accident.

Okay, I misunderstood you then. I wouldn't mind seeing some other director with a good reputation with similar types of movies try to take on Transformers. But I'm not saying they would definitely do it better.

I think James Cameron would be a better fit for the role as director since he has better idea how to make robot movies (T2).
This time please make Megatron a G1 a gun and use Frank Welker as for the voice over. The voices really do make the characters as well as the designs. Most of the decepticons designs were crap except for Baracade and Blackout.
The positive thing about this movie was Cullen as Prime and the other Autobot designs were decent.
Ok your a noob and no doubt a plant via someone.
I am a g1'er totally.
I bashed this movie for almost a year.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE BEST MOVIE IVE EVER SEEN!
I hate Bay, but this movie was his crown jewel.
You must be one of the hardest people too please.
And Cameron is without a doubt the worlds worst director.

James Cameron is to much a Control freak to do Transformers. Every movie he does he has total control over all decisions. I liked Jim and all, and think he would be great. But with Battle Angel Alita and Avatar on this plate, him directing TF2 is impossible.

Look I have a right to my opinion as all of you do.. But I would like to see a different directors take and Megatron not looking like an alien monster with Hugo Weaving doing his voice... He just turned out to be a big joke. It just wasnt right..
If it wasnt for Prime and the autobots the movie would have really tanked, they are what saved it. Like I said most of the decepticons designs were horrible, except for Barracade and Blackout.

I must gave been watching a completely different cartoon when I was little....
comparing a 2-hour movie to a 3-year cartoon series is silly at best...
so is taking the "Robot element" from a movie based about Alien Robots. Bay ruined Transfomers and will do so to TF:v2
He has even been quoted on record that he didnt make the movie for the Fans o.O WTF ... then by that logic the only reason you made the movie is to make Money $$$
now that's just silly ..
at best
Sorry, they are in a business. They do it to make money. They targeted the general public, and it is succeeding.
Sorry, Bay didn't ruin Transformers. I will still fork out hundreds of dollars for Transformers 2007 merchandise. So, people like me help keep it going, even if people like you come on here and say "He ruined it". Unfortunately, my money has more of an impact.
Bay wins, I win, my kids win! We are satisfied.

Yeah, I hated a good chunk of the G1 deception designs/characters. Unfortunately, our opinions don't really mean much, considering we still watch it, and even if you don't watch it.
G1 still survived even though while I was a kid i was sitting there waiting for the stupid Deception parts of the show to finish. I should have complained! Perhaps that would have made a difference!

Bay doent get it. Transformers is about The Transformers, not the humans they happend to stumble accros
I could see Camron doing a TF sequel much better.
Concept images aside, i am not loosing any sleep due to how the robots look ... Bay did not put the "character" into the robots. To him (Bay) they (the TFs) were just robots. secondary players in a "human" story.
Thats just wrong.
Sorry, if you havn't noticed, this was some impressive CGI. And apparently, CGI is pretty expensive, so in a business sense, it makes QUITE a lot of sense to have human actors. I would like to khow much this movie would have cost if it was all Transformers. More then 150mil I'm sure.
Of course us nerds would go nuts if it was 95% robot action (Though I still and will always crave seeing humans being exposed to Transformers for the first time, big screen, comics or cartoons)
You just don't care much for Humans. Obviously you don't care to see them, to bad though. I didn't care much for seeing elves in lord of the rings, I wanted more treemen. Doesn't matter though in the end.

I hope he does too. He took a lot of heat(some from me, early on) but this movie is out of the park, see ya later good! Totaly nailed it. He deserves to continue his vision of TF's.
I dont get these people who needed more from the movie in way of plot thickness. WTF? Its an action flick not Shawshank. For all I care they could have started the movie with robots fighting have the battle last two hours, end it and not have a word in between.
F**k yeah!
Agreed! Only concstructive critism on direction from me: more broad sweeping / slow-mo action shots (Bonecrusher tackling Prime and Prime & Megatron going thru the buildng).

Bay's new Transformers is fun in its own goofy way, and there are
enough sops to the fanboys that most will go home happy. Peter Cullen
reprises his role as the voice of Optimus Prime, and the screenwriters
manage not one but two invocations of the immortal phrase "more than
meets the eye."But there's nothing even approaching the original's
narrative depth. The good guys beat the bad guys, and no one we care
about is harmed in the process—the movie hasn't succeeded in making us
care about anyone. Prime comes across as a stand-up guy, but we have no
real sense of Megatron's motivations or of Starscream's ambition.
Bumblebee, the robot we spend the most time with in the movie, doesn't
get a speaking part until the penultimate scene. The high-octane
violence and PG-13 attentions lavished on Megan Fox's torso may attract
some new young fans, but in the end Bay's Transformers feels timid
compared with the 1985 version.

Michael Bay did an excellent job considering that the movie takes a new parallel to the Transformer storyline. I'm just sorry that Jazz got a face full of suck in the movie. At least it wasn't Wheeljack.

I think Frank would have done an excellent job for the voice but I am not disappointed in the final result either. The character designs were awesome given the initial shock of hideous faces. The only disappointing thing for me in truth is that they have Brawl/Demolisher and I don't know what to call him.

I think it would have been awkward to do a direct translation of character designs. They did an exquisite job of making new looks but keeping the original essence of the characters.
AWESOME MOVIE and I look forward to the others!

You guys do realise that when Nem says she's quoting Stan Lee she's only quoting his 'nuff said line?
She's not saying Stan Lee is commenting on the movie, she's just quoting his famous line.
