Prehistoric Shark Video

Prehistoric Shark Appears Off Japan
A rare prehistoric shark, the Deep Sea Frill Shark, appears off the coast of Japan. The Frilled more... Shark usually inhabits deep waters between 400 and 4200 feet. The eel-like Frilled Shark may be responsible for some 'sea serpent' sightings.

This one somehow found its way into shallow water off the coast of Japan, where it was captured and taken to a nearby marine park. In poor condition, the shark died soon after this video was shot. (Originally aired on Nippon News Network - Jan 23, 2007.)

This is awesome, as it proves that theres a possibility that other prehistoric animals could still be alive out there today. Like Mokele-mbembe and Kongamato.

I read about this a few days ago, but had not seen the video until now. Thanks for posting the link.

I'm quite pleased to see this relatively unknown species of shark photographed; however, I wonder if this video is really indicative of their swimming techniques and behavior. The one in the video looks quite sickly, and from my understanding, it died soon after.

I saw this on BBC America world news the other night.
It is pretty cool to see a "living fossil" like that.

Just google "frill shark" and you'll get a ton of information and picture.

And while you're at it, look up "goblin shark". You'll see something really freaky.

Also look up "Megamouth shark".

There are more than 400 species of shark identified to date, and very few of them look anything like what comes into our minds when we think of a "shark".

It was most likely actually found. There's a precedent for this sort of thing, after all. Sabretooth tigers, though... I'm afraid they're pretty much flat out of luck. It's a lot easier to hide in the ocean than it is to hide on land.

I think it looked undead-ish because it wasn't very healthy. I can't imagine that it would sag like that normally. Also, the freakiest sea creature award has got to go to sea spiders. They're basically just a bunch of legs joined together. If you have arachnophobia you're not going to like them, that's for sure.

It was found. The frill shark is a creature that's been known about for a long time (1884 was when it was first described to science.)

There's a fish called the coelacanth. It was believed to be extinct until one was hauled out of the ocean in 1938 (Seacon Skalor's alt mode is based on it in fact).

The is another kind of shark called the megamouth shark, a plankton feeding creature over 20 feet long not discovered until only 30 years ago.

The sea has a lot of surprises out there, but I doubt you'd find any megalodons.
