Prime tough enough? *spoilers*

Postby product of the 80s » Thu Jul 05, 2007 7:07 pm

Hey guys, first post so be nice...

Anyhow, I'm not too familiar w/ this site, but I just wanted to get the opinion of some true TF fans.

As a big fan growing up w/ the G1 series and Movie I was always a huge fan of Prime and how they handled the Prime/Megatron fued. The way Megatron would use dirty tactics to gain the upperhand over the otherwise superior Prime.

In the movie, which I loved btw, the end was ruined for me in how Prime simply got slapped and literally thrown around like a little girl. I understand making Megatron a huge threat, I just don't like the idea of making it look like Prime is nowhere close to being his equal.

So how did the final fight (or lack thereof...) sit with you guys after Bay promised us an "epic battle" between Prime and Megs at the end?

Am I the only Prime fan who was really annoyed by how Bay handled it?

I don't know Prime completely owned Bonecrusher just a few minutes before and he certainly held his own in the fight with Megs. He was also probably distracted with wanting to harm as few humans as possible during the fight. I just don't think we saw enough of the fight (damn you Bay) to call it fairly.

I think we also need to consider how much energon Prime used up before facing off against Megatron.

Yeah, that and Megatron was running off pure temper there. Maybe he's like the Hulk and gets stronger the angrier he gets.

yea of course its just our own speculation, but prime did kill bonecrusher (and barricade too right?) right before they fought. and megatron had not wasted much energy at all.

i forgot who said it, but someone involved with the movie said the ending would be more epic than the end of peter jackson's king kong. i have to disagree with that.

I think I'm the only one here to think that actually G1 Megatron was more powerful than G1 Optimus, and the movie battle was a good implementation of it.

Megatron didn't even had time to reload his energon for thousands of years (although maybe he stopped somewhere to reload, since he was a little late from the last battle); so that was as fair fight as it could be.

In the cartoon as well as the movie, Megatron NEVER beat Prime in a fair fight. Prime always got the upperhand until Megatron used some dirty tactic.

Prime had Megatron beat in the animated movie until Hotrod stepped in the way and got Prime killed, and even after the shots Prime had the power to send Megatron to his own demise.

It's only a movie, but I just didn't like seeing Prime get thrown around with so little effort. That and being so quick to give up the fight. just my opinion.

thats true, but they made megatron do that to showcase his evil...and if you think about it...wouldnt those dirty tactics working make megatron stronger than prime...brains over brawn...megatron knew how to manipulate prime, imo thats just as important if not moreso than brute strength

How many times do I have to say this.

Watch the background in the scenes with Blackout, Prime gives as good as he gets.

The only shot that really goes unanswered is when Megatron Kicks him while he's down.

Do I need to post the whole breakdown of the fight again?

I agree. I was really loving the movie until this part. I still love it but a lot less then I would have...

The whole point is that Megatron is more powerful than Optimus Prime, as it has been in all of the incarnations of Transformers. Optimus was weaker than him but he had the forces of good on his side (motivation, something to care about etc...) so he able to beat Megatron. Plus, Optimus was still kicking butt. He killed Bonecrusher in less than a minute (lets not get into that...).

Prime looked like he was doing fine to me. He was dishing out the punishment and taking it like a champ. I can't wait to see the movie again, because the action scenes were so crazy, it was hard to watch everything. Next time I will make sure to see every spec of Prime vs. Megs.

Prime gets about as many hits in as Megatron does, but you need to watch the fight when they cut from it.

The only real unanswered hit Megatron gets is kicking PRime when he's down (Actually I think that Prime Gets him back for that when he takes his legs out from under him).

I'm not going to get into it too much (because that would take WAY too long), but Optimus Prime has always been stronger, and that's not just not a biased statement. Sure, Megatron did gain the upper hand by cheating (let's call it was always is), but when it comes down to it, Prime is simply a better warrior. In many of Megatron's bios, it is said he has no weaknesses. However, I beg to differ. It is often is overly single-minded desire for power that is his weakness. "Pride goes before the fall" anyone? And someone said earlier "brains over brawn", but Prime does have the noble traits of a good warrior, and I think they give him an edge.

Anyway, in the original movie, it's pretty much blatantly obvious that Prime was the better fighter. He didn't completely OWN Megatron, but let's not forget who was on their stomach at the end of the battle, BEFORE Hot Rod intervened. Had he not, Megatron would have been dust, and as someone said, even after Prime fell, Megatron fell harder!!

As for the new movie, yeah, I loved it, but the Prime/Megatron fight just wasn't right. I've seen it twice now, and I was able to catch a little more of the fight. In fact, I made it a point to focus only on the fight whenever it was shown, and I think I saw Prime get one punch in, plus his blast, and that was it. So I was disappointed there, so I hope Bay does it right next time. To me, a Prime/Megatron fight should be almost even, and I think the '86 movie did a good job of that. But then, I thought Megatron was overdone in this movie anyway. I mean, I know he was supposed to be a monster, but that was just too much...

Geez - some of you have no idea how to create tension in a film

If our heroes are stronger than the villians we get a snnozefest like Episode 1 - our heroes have to be the underdogs so we can enjoy their win - otherwise its just a squash match

Megatron was always stronger, after all Decepticons are naturally stronger being the military robots

The hero always has to get his butt handed to him in the final fight until the very end, when someone else sacrifices himself or they hero finds it in him when the villian says something that threatens a loved one, and so on. Remember how Spidey gets his butt kicked by Goblin at the end, only to find the strength after Goblin threatens MJ? Or Harry sacrifices himself and dies (Peter would've definitely been killed instead). There has to be suspense and a little frustration to make the payoff worth it. Prime had to be kicked around a bit to make it work. But he did own Bonecrusher.

yeah, to dd suspense and thrills to the movie, Megatron was very powerful.

Now Prime is really powerful, im not even mentioning encounter-not evan a fight really, with bonecrusher, but even Prime had doubts about Megatron.

Megatron had to be powerful for the sake of the plot, if prime beat him fast, where is the enjoyment in that?

I never thought of G1 Prime being weaker than Megatron, and I don't think he is in the movie. Prime in G1 and in the movie was very concerned with human well-being to the point of being distracted in many fights. I think if he'd just gone to it and not worried about anything else and just went at it, it'd have been over quickly.
