Many larger and more successful films are shown in larger cinemas for long periods of time, The Sydney City Cinemas for example were still playing Titanic and Lord of the Rings long after their Home Video/DVD releases were released.
AS long as Movie sessions keep making money Cinemas will keep playing them!

These people don't seriously believe that people will still go to the theaters after Tuesday, right? I mean, where I live, it's down to one theater now, and I don't expect that nor the IMAX release to last past this week.

I guess we will find out in a week.
It would make sense for Transformers to completely disappear from Movie screens once the DVD is released, but then again it really is a film that is superior to watch on larger screens, just like LotR.
There are also budget cinemas, and cinemas in smaller towns that get the film reels months after general release that would still be showing it.
