Yeah, there's no trick, except the one your brain's playing on you. It's the same sort of thing as the half-cube image where you can either see the centre as an inside corner (like looking at the corner of a room) or as an outside corner (like the corner of a die). Usually I'll look at them and they'll keep flipping between one and the other as I go on.

And that's what happens here. When I first looked at the image, it appeared to be spinning clockwise, but when I read the post and looked back, it was spinning clockwise for a second, then switched to anti-clockwise. Now I can flip it at will.

It's basically a matter of your brain filling in the details. Because there's no noticeable perspective to the image (that is nothing appears to be getting larger or smaller as it moves forward and back), when you see the image in any given position, it can be leaning in one of two different directions, forward and back, depending on how your brain's replacing the missing pieces.

I think my brain's broken. I see her facing clockwise, spinning anti clockwise. Yes, she's going backwards.

I'm logical and whatnot, fitting in with that discription. I'm right handed, except when I play pool which is left for some bizarre reason.

But then, I have started talking to myself Gollum style recently. Perhaps that has something to do with it. :???:

Im seeing counter clockwise, does anyone else see the great rack or is it me?

Yes, she's supposed to be spinning backward (of course your brain might be broken as well

)

To get it spinning the other way try looking at it with your periferal vision then you can switch your brain to seeing it go the opposite way.

BAGH! I scrolled down so I could only see her foot shadow, then scrolled back up and she was going the other way. What manner of trickery be this?

She also switched the leg she was standing on when she changed direction.

Today I've been able to see it both ways. I took the GIF apart and there is no technical trickery or script involved. I can even make the direction change at will now, quite bizarre considering yesterday I could only see it one way.

Today if I as just looking at the feet I could make it co gounter clockwise, but I can't do it with the whole body for some reason.

i'm right handed and while it started off clockwise as soon as i wondered if it could go the other direction...

:shock:

it looked counter-clockwise.

Then after reading the info below i realized, if i focus on the the legs only, i can change my peception to either way win the leg is pointing out fully left or right.

If i try, i can make it appear counter-clockwise but it's far easier for me to keep preceieving it as clockwise.
