Raimi and mario bros. are becoming old arguments for "how to do a property right or wrong" Yeah spidey's suit looks close to the "original" and goomba's arent just a head with feet. As its been stated it has been changed but it is still recognizable. As I beleive these new bots are for the most part.
Old arguments that in this case are still perfectly valid. When the publicity shots of the Super Mario Bros. movie came out, people recognized that as a goomba and the little T-Rex as a yoshi. They were
recognizable, but they weren't what the vast majority of the audience wanted. Same with the Godzilla film. Could they have made them closer to the originals? Certainly. Humanoid funguses have been a staple of fantasy and sci-fi for decades, and making Bowser and the koopa troopers humanoid turtles instead of humanoid dinosaurs wouldn't have been an impossible change. The people making the film just didn't want to because God forbid that they should "give in" and give the people who made the franchise such a hot property in the first place what they want.

We all like different things thats define prime and the other bots. To me these "bots" have it and to others they don't. Its does not ignore or negate 20 years of history by simply making a new interpretation. You(Generalization) may only like G1 prime while me and 300 other people like new prime. It does not make either of us wrong because we like different primes.
With the exception of Megatron, Starscream, and Bumblebee's head, which are complete cases of WTF, I generally do like the new designs... at least in the concept art and the figures. The renders, however, look waaaay too busy and I can think of absolutely no reason why it would be necessary. What I don't get is how you go from not wanting something to be 'boxy' to looking completely mangled. Look at the new renders. Starscream has pointy bits coming off the joints in his fingers, Ironhide's legs and torso are so screwy you can't tell what direction anything below his chest is supposed to be facing. Now look at Jazz... see how clean the angles are and un-twisted everything is? He looks like a humanoid skeleton with a car shell for armor plating. Now guess which one of those redesigns, judging by comments, seems to be the least divisive?
