SG Collect's Cybertronian Drift finally complete

Okay, for those of you who actually remember a 3rd party company called SG Collect made a Cybertronian mode Drift for convention about a year and a half ago before Hasbro decided to release their version. I ordered him and had trouble painting him so I commissioned another local collector who does customs to paint him for me. After over a year he's finally done.

This guy has been heavily modified from his original design, which was pretty terrible. The shoulder pads are now held on by high powered magnets. His head and hands are now ball jointed and the hands are actually completely new. He was originally held together by styrene rods, those have been replaced with metal rods.

I decided to post this here instead of the custom forum since he is actually from a 3rd party company, although I think they may no longer be in existence. He was hardly worth what I have invested in him, but he makes for a pretty unique piece.

I'm actually pretty happy with the results, but I can't take credit for them. The guy I commissioned while very slow did an incredible job.

3rd party companies can't bat 100 all the time. Glad you turned your Drift into something awsome. The guy did good work.

Yeah, I never even finished mine. Those shoulders weren't designed to work at all.

I am tempted to get another Generations Drift and see what I can cobble together though...

Looks good! I got this kit as well, I finished painting him a few months ago. I'm at my parents house at the moment but I'll post some pictures when I get back.

Although this kit was expensive for what it is, I actually really enjoyed putting it together and having a go at a kit for the first time has helped my custom making skills.

It's a shame that Generations Drift is so good, otherwise this guy might spend a bit more time on display!

Exactly! I wouldn't know where to put him now. The only thing I could think of is a WfC shelf but the would leave the Bot/Con ratio at 2 to 1! Plus, WfC Drift would make no sense. Maybe Deadlock?

The shoulder pads are now held on my magnets, it works pretty good. You just slide them off all together when transforming him, peg them together, and slide them back over the arms once you get them folded up and in the right place. He also redesigned the leg transformation to get away form those fragile little slider pegs. Now he has pop off panels in his inner knees with pegs. When you transform him you pop out the panels and slide the legs up. The panels have to be stored at that point. So he's basically a parts former now, but at least he transforms. Had his Deadlock image been available at the time I commissioned this I probably would have had the guy try to make him more like Deadlock.

That is definitely a unique piece. Personally, I've never heard of that 3rd party company nor of this Cybertronian mode Drift. I'm impressed w/ the paint app, a year's worth of waiting paid off I think. If I commissioned a private painter to do that kind of work for me I'd have to exercise a lot of patience because he has his own life to live, a job, probably a family too. If that was in my collection I would be quite proud of it, not many others of that mold exist, certainly none others w/ that paint app.

Just remembered about this..........

Here's a picture of my effort:

CIMG0794.JPG

I think it's quite interesting seeing how other people approach the same thing. I didn't bother with a coat of varnish, I did give him a grey wash though, which I intended to tidy up but then decided it gave him quite a nice comic book feel and so left it.

This piece was $100, but I enjoyed putting it together so much that I'd say it was worth it to me.

This kit (and the group behind it) got pretty bad reviews when it came out at the time.
