Personally I prefer white background more than black... But both are cools when do it nicely... Just like black car and white car are always the coolest...

Why no one like blue background?

I guess most ppl go with Black/White as these colours are more neutral and goes well with most figures. I used to have problems taking pics of black figures with black BGs. I think grey's also a good colour to use.

I actually like white background as much as black, but still looking for a good reflective surface which can give similar effect to the one I have for black BG. Same thing for grey. Another factor is probably because 80% of my pics are already in black BGs, so lazy to change.

I thought white was easier than black but I was wrong. Without the proper technique (which I probably wasn't using), it's kinda hard to get the pics out without over saturating the colours. Have asked around for some tips and will work on that when I have more time.

With so many photogs around to ask, it's pretty easy to improve. Ady, yours are already way better than what I started out with (see below):

I personally like to have some sort of colour contrast between the background and the toy. A light coloured toy with a dark coloured background and vice versa. I don't know, I just think that it'll bring out the details and effects of the toy better this way.

It's why I don't use a black background with a black/dark coloured toy or a white background with a bright/light coloured toy.

Anyway, this is my maiden attempt at glowing eye effects in GIMP.




Oh yes, Unicron Nemesis, may I ask how you achieve the shiny, detailed effect on your toys in your photos? I like that.

For lack of a better word, there is a certain shine on the toys. This is the "shiny effect" that I like in your pics.

I'm guessing a secondary light source...

Ok, I see what you meant.

Yes Kamex is right in a way. That's actually from the lighting. I use portable light sources for my pics instead of depending on the ceiling light. I usually shift it around for better effects and to get light onto the figures without causing too much 'glare' or reflection.

well i used my study light to get lighting onto my toys during photography those days

used paper to filter the intensity if it was too bright
it wasn't adjustable hahaha

MP-10 looks like an updated and scaled-down version of MP-01. Looks good, same size at Rodimus makes a more uniformed display with the other Masterpieces. I really like the Spike little figure. If I get MP-10, the main reason would be for the little dude, heh.

I ordered one from RobotKingdom 2 months ago and I've just been told that my order's lost in the mail and they will giving me a refund. They also thanked me for understanding their bs.

Goes to prove one thing - snapping good pictures goes a long way of getting your pics noticed. I still need to work on my lighting to get the desired results.

Aiyah, no need to stress up on hobby lah symon... Who cares whether people notice ur photos or work, the most important thing is you feel happy taking photos or doing ur custom...

If people notice = $$$$, then we are talking about very serious business... Otherwise, who cares...

TCracker, I still think your Shockwave pic was great. Great pose and created the right mood. That's something that others can't replicate easily/naturally. Just continue taking pics the way you like them. Let there be no greater critic than yourself.
