Wow. I cannot believe a simple joke has managed to get so many people on the rag about Jazz's character. Wow, I'm glad I didn't tell a joke about George W Bush or we'd spend all day analyzing HIS character. (Oh, and I'd better leave a message saying that I know Bush wasn't in the movie because SOMEBODY is bound to take THAT the wrong way.)

You think the fact that he's called "Jazz" would be clue enough as to what kind of black guy he was meant to be. Seriously, how dumb and bastardised can you get. That's the problem with the movie though; almost everything is bastardised and MTV-ised.
Jazz as a rocker would rule imo.I see him as a funky bass player. He always been seen as a cool dude no matter what kind of person he is based on. MTV-ised? I didn't know that it was Music TV.*sarcasm* Well it used to be.
